  • Patent number: 9890937
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for improved traffic control devices including a continuous central hanger support system that is integral to the traffic control device and provides a central load path. In an embodiment of the invention, the terminal housing and traffic signal housing of the traffic control device can be included in a single unit housing. A single unit housing can also include an integral backplate. Embodiments with an integral backplate can provide a solar energy generation system that utilizes a traffic signal's exterior surface as a substratum to secure thin-film photo cell laminates (TFPVL). The continuous central hanger integrated with the single unit housing can provide the traffic control device with improved securement of electrical components and structural stability for survivability during high wind events as compared to conventional traffic signal devices.

  • Patent number: 9267813
Abstract: On-board device mounted in a vehicle includes output device including a display device and a speaker. The on-board device comprises a communications device that communicates with a mobile device having an information processing function. The on-board device also comprises an output controller that receives through the communications device information produced by the mobile phone and controls output of the received information to the output device. The output controller is configured to determine if the received information satisfies one or more certain conditions that are determined from the standpoint of safety of the vehicle, and further configured to output the received information to the output device if the determination is positive, and to process the received information to satisfy the one or more certain conditions or retards the output until it satisfies the one or more certain conditions if the determination is negative.

  • Patent number: 8766814
Abstract: A motorman's cab display system includes a motorman's cab display apparatus that can automatically adjust display luminance of a display device without using an illuminance sensor. The motorman's cab display apparatus determines, based on location information of a train transmitted from a train information control system, whether the train is traveling in a tunnel, sets, when determining that the train is traveling in the tunnel, as the luminance of a display screen, luminance for inside of tunnel set in advance, and sets, when determining that the train is traveling outside the tunnel, as luminance of the display screen, luminance information for outside of tunnel set in advance. A display control method for motorman's cab display apparatuses includes: calculating a traveling location of the train; and adjusting the luminance of the display screen according to the luminance information output from a luminance determining unit.

  • Patent number: 8044784
Abstract: A sun protection system for a transportation vehicle has plurality of LCD zones laminated into one or more glazings of the vehicle. An occupant sensor detects an expanse of at least one occupant in the vehicle. A navigation system determines a vehicle location, a date and time value, and a heading. External and internal temperature sensors sense outside and inside temperatures. A controller generates respective drive signals for the respective LCD zones in a manual mode and in an automatic mode. The controller compares a temperature difference between the outside temperature and the inside temperature to a temperature threshold. The respective drive signals provide substantially zero attenuation if the temperature difference is less than the temperature threshold while in the automatic mode.

  • Patent number: 7385481
Abstract: A signaling control device apparatus (10) comprises at least one LED (20) having a light emitting surface (18). A sensor (24) is set to detect an external light load (16) directed to the light emitting surface (18) and generate a control signal indicative of a presence of the light load (16). An electrical control system (14) detects the control signal indicative of the light load (16) and sources an elevated current to the LED (20) while the light load (16) is present. The elevated current increases the contrast ratio making the signal perceivable by the users as being in a particular state.

  • Patent number: 6469622
Abstract: An automobile lamp having a colorless and transparent light source, a housing whose front portion is an-aperture covered with a lens, wherein the housing has a color to be perceived as a uniform color of the automobile lamp when the light source is off, and reflecting portions arranged on the inner back surface of the housing such that they form a mesh or striped pattern when combined with the remaining portion of the inner back surface of the housing. Color uniformity of the automobile lamp when the automobile lamp is off is greatly improved. Furthermore, in spite of small proportion of the reflecting portions as compared with the conventional composition, the automobile lamp is able to emit light in sufficient quantity without any light source with high luminance accompanying high power consumption. There is also provided an automobile rear combination lamp having a turn signal lamp, a back-up lamp, and a stop lamp based on the automobile lamp disclosed herein.
