  • Patent number: 9590698
Abstract: Various aspects of the instant disclosure are directed towards a method for communicating time-based data in a power line communication system. In accordance with one or more example embodiments, firmware is downloaded to a multitude of endpoints over power distribution lines carrying alternating current (AC) power. Endpoint devices targeted for changes to stored firmware are grouped and the firmware is delivered in chunks to each group. As devices receive a particular chunk of firmware, the device advances to a next stage and provides information indicative of this stage, based upon which subsequent chunks of firmware are communicated. This occurs (e.g., on a daily cycle) until the endpoint has received all firmware for an update, after which the endpoint(s) are re-started using the firmware. Accordingly, such updates can be carried out in a cyclic and verifiable manner.

  • Patent number: 9591682
Abstract: A user of a cellular telephone also has a peripheral device, such as a wristlet or ring, for example, that is worn on, and contacts, the user's body. When the user depresses a user control, such as a power button or other control on the cellular telephone, a Body Area Network (BAN) communication link is established between the cellular telephone and the peripheral device. The BAN link utilizes the user's body as a transmission medium to carry data between the cellular telephone and the peripheral device. Additionally, a passcode stored at the peripheral device is sent to the cellular telephone over the BAN link. If the passcode is valid, the device will bypass a passcode entry screen and unlock the cellular telephone for the user.

Abstract: An energy system having a plurality of storage batteries and renewable power supplies includes an information processor. Each of the storage batteries is individually set to a maximum SOC representing a charging limit and a minimum SOC representing a discharging limit. Each of the storage batteries is chargeable and dischargeable under the control of an external device and is capable of measuring SOC values. The information processor controls charging and discharging processes of the storage batteries individually to keep the storage batteries charged until SOC values acquired from the storage batteries reach the maximum SOC when the storage batteries are charged and to keep the storage batteries discharged until SOC values acquired from the storage batteries reach the minimum SOC when the storage batteries are discharged.

Abstract: A metering data transmitter device, for wirelessly communicating metering data from a utility meter to another location, includes an enclosure and an electronic circuit located at least partially within the enclosure. An input portion of the electronic circuit receives an electronic input signal from the utility meter that is indicative of metering data. A transmitter subcircuit portion of the electronic circuit, operating preferably in the 33 centimeter band, transmits a radio frequency output signal that is indicative of that metering data. The electronic circuit also includes a display subcircuit portion for displaying a visually discernible indication of the metering data (preferably a digital display). One embodiment receives the electronic input signal via electrical wiring while another embodiment receives the electronic input signal wirelessly (e.g., via a Bluetooth-type communication link). Preferably, a control subcircuit is provided for enabling a user to control the electronic circuit (e.g.

Abstract: A method for transmitting, storing and managing data by compressing data packets to be transmitted and received over an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) network with low-capacity memory and low-transfer rate. A number of transmission packets may be reduced using at least one of a bitmap interval algorithm that assigns a bitmap value to each interval, thereby reducing a number of request packets, a repeated-bitmap interval algorithm that represents sequential data values as bitmap values by toggling a bit value between 0 and 1 in each data value when a change occurs in the sequential data values, and a run-length encoding algorithm that compresses data by encoding run length of sequential identical data.
