  • Patent number: 11402483
Abstract: Systems and methods are described to identify motion events on a sloped surface, such as a mountainside, using transmitted and received radio frequency (RF) chirps. A one-dimensional array of receive antennas can be digitally beamformed to determine azimuth information of received reflected chirps. Elevation information can be determined based on time-of-flight measurements of received reflected chirps and known distances to locations on the sloped surface. Motion events may be characterized by deviations in return power levels and/or return phase shifts. The systems and methods may, for example, be used to provide real-time detection of avalanches and/or landslides.

  • Patent number: 11379817
Abstract: A toll advertisement message (TAM) broadcast from a roadside unit (RSU) is received by a vehicle via V2X communication, the TAM indicating geographic locations of lanes of a roadway for which tolls are due and cost information for traversing the lanes of the roadway. A heading of the vehicle is determined in relation to a TAM reference point indicating a geographic location of a toll gantry. A toll zone boundary region for the vehicle is identified by filtering the geographic locations of the lanes in the TAM to include only those lanes in a travel direction consistent with the heading. A lane straddling algorithm is utilized to identify, for each of the lanes in the travel direction, a respective percentage within each lane that the vehicle is traveling. A tolling usage message (TUM) is sent via the V2X communication, indicating to the RSU the percentage lane usage of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 11373521
Abstract: Various technologies described herein pertain to generating a bid for turn priority at an intersection. An autonomous vehicle determines that the autonomous vehicle and a second autonomous vehicle are proximate to an intersection. The autonomous vehicle generates a first bid that is indicative of a first importance that the autonomous vehicle traverses the intersection. The first bid is based upon characteristics of a trip of a passenger riding in the autonomous vehicle. The autonomous vehicle transmits the first bid to a networked computing system, wherein the networked computing system determines a turn order based upon the first bid and a second bid generated by the second autonomous vehicle. The networked computing system transmits the turn order to the autonomous vehicle, wherein the autonomous vehicle operates based upon the turn order.

  • Patent number: 10883845
Abstract: Methods for detecting the passing of a virtual tolling point by a vehicle travelling on a road network are performed by systems and apparatuses. In the methods, a sequence of distances between position fixes and the virtual tolling point are calculated, where the position fixes are sequentially obtained from a GNSS receiver carried by the vehicle. The sequence of distances are searched for a global minimum followed by an increase and, if such is found, then the passing of the virtual tolling point is detected. Otherwise, a new distance calculated between a newly obtained position fix and the virtual tolling point is appended to the sequence while discarding the oldest distance from the sequence. The method is then repeated from the sequence of distances being searched until the passing of the virtual tolling point is detected.

  • Patent number: 10013813
Abstract: This publication describes a method and a system for registering use of studded decks (6) and for collecting due toll for use of studded decks on a vehicle (19) having at least one studded deck (6). This is done when a vehicle (19) passes over a detection device (1) on a road surface (18) of a road, the detection device (1) being associated with one or more sensors (2) that is able to detect impulses created by the decks (6) on the vehicle (19) that passes over the detection device (1). The impulses are registered and compared with a pre-determined value that enables a processing device (3) to determine whether one or more of the decks (6) are provided with studs or not. The system is configured in such way that the processed signal provides basis for collecting toll or at least bringing this fact to the attention of the driver and that toll is due.
