  • Patent number: 10186149
Abstract: A driving assistance device includes a controller configured to perform presentation of driving assistance information regarding a signalized intersection to a driver of a vehicle by causing a display unit to display an assistance image. The controller is configured to, when a road distance up to a signalized intersection where the driver of the vehicle is scheduled to enter is less than a threshold distance, prohibit the presentation of the driving assistance information to the driver, the presentation being performed by displaying the assistance image including an image indicating information regarding a predicted light color of a traffic signal installed at the corresponding signalized intersection.

Abstract: A roadside equipment (RSE) system that can be used for controlling traffic signals and other equipment and corresponding method. A method includes maintaining a traffic signal in a GREEN phase in a first direction, including displaying a GREEN indicator in the first direction. The method includes detecting an event indicating that the phase of the traffic signal in the first direction should be changed and changing the phase of the traffic signal to a pre-YELLOW phase in response to the detected event, including continuing to display the GREEN indicator in the first direction. The method includes wirelessly transmitting a message indicating the pre-YELLOW phase and a phase time, the phase time indicating a next change of phase of the traffic signal, and changing the phase of the traffic signal to a YELLOW phase when the phase time has been reached.

Abstract: In this driving supporting device, the light color change cycle of a prediction object traffic signal is acquired on the basis of the light color change cycle of a prediction basis traffic signal installed before the prediction object traffic signal, and the light color state of the prediction object traffic signal when the vehicle arrives at the prediction object traffic signal is predicted on the basis of the light color state of the prediction basis traffic signal and the light color change cycle of the prediction object traffic signal. Thus, since the light color change cycle of the prediction object traffic signal is acquired on the basis of the light color change cycle of the prediction basis traffic signal, it becomes possible to predict a light color state even in the case of a traffic signal which cannot transmit information indicating its light color change cycle.

Abstract: A driving support apparatus which performs driving support regarding a traffic signal includes: a communication device which acquires time-series traffic signal information regarding the lighting state of the traffic signal; a time calculating unit which calculates the time remaining until the lighting state changes on the basis of the traffic signal information; and an output device which notifies a driver of lighting time information regarding the time remaining. When the time remaining is equal to or smaller than a threshold value, the output device does not perform notification of the lighting time information so that it can be difficult for the driver to predict the timing at which a red lighting state of the traffic signal will change. Accordingly, it becomes possible to suppress unsafe action by the driver based on the traffic signal information notification received.

Abstract: A traffic light safety zone is a painted marked area, of parallel lines, approaching a traffic intersection to warn motorists whether they can safety proceed through the road intersection before a traffic sign light turns red, the zones are configured to indicate whether a motorist in the zone has clearance at a designated speed to proceed and cross with safety, the zone parallel colored thermal plastic painted lines form a visual indicator, and give an audio output due to the thickness of the thermal painted plastic; a distinctive traffic sign indicates to motorists of an approaching traffic light safety zone.

Abstract: A traffic system that helps a driver to save gasoline by avoiding red light or by decelerating before a red light. It predicts the colors of a traffic light and informs about the future traffic light colors that will happen to a driver. The system comprising a sub-control system, three kinds of moving sections representing three future colors: green, yellow, and red. The positions of the moving sections are showed by indicators. The indicators are secured along one side of the street.

Abstract: A unit for pedestrian control of traffic lights operated by a traffic light controller, comprises a casing adapted to be mounted to a traffic light post, the casing having a bottom face carrying a window, and a photocell mounted in the casing for directing a beam through the window in a downward direction generally parallel to the post to which the casing is mounted. The photocell is responsive to the presence of a pedestrian's hand placed beneath the window in the beam. The photocell is adapted to be operatively connected to the traffic light controller to send a signal thereto when the presence of a pedestrian has been detected.

Abstract: For the attention control for an operator of technical equipment, a display device for displaying action-relevant information in the form of images or symbols is implemented in which the duration of the display of the specific image or symbol lies below a conscious and above an unconscious perception threshold of the operator, and in which the specific image or symbol is displayed at those locations of the field of vision of the operator at which objects are located to which his/her attention is to be drawn. The advantage of the present invention consists in that the operator does not need to turn his/her view away from the scene to be monitored and in that he/she is not unnecessarily disturbed by the representation of information.

  • Patent number: 6630892
Abstract: The present invention is directed towards a danger alert system for a site, and in particular a moving site such as a vehicle. The danger alert system comprises a signal transmitter about a transmitting site for transmitting a signal. The invention further comprises a receiver alert system about a receiving site for receiving the signal emitted by the transmitter about the transmitting site. The receiver alert system then determines the likelihood of danger posed by the transmitting site based upon an analysis of the received signal. The receiver alert system is made up at least one signal receptor adapted for receiving the transmitted signal. The receiver alert system is made up of a velocity measurer, a site locator, and a danger assessor, all in communication with the signal receptors. The velocity measurer determines the relative velocity of the transmitting site from an analysis of the signal. The site locator determines a relative position of the transmitting site from an analysis of the signal.

  • Patent number: 6552668
Abstract: An attachment to a traffic light apparatus for indicating duration of a current traffic light signal comprises a panel that consists of a plurality of lamps which are electrically connected in parallel to a source of power supply and are controlled by a clock signal from the traffic light apparatus via a central processing unit and a controller. Each lamp is connected to the power supply line via an individual relay, the contacts of which are opened and closed under control of commands from the aforementioned central processing unit via the controller. The indication panel is divided into a plurality of color cells. Each cell contains a lamp. On the oncoming traffic side each cell is closed with a transparent color plate that defines the color of the light with which the cell is illuminated when the lamp is lit. The color cells may have different arrangements such as an alternating order in each row or the same color of cells in each row with alternation of vertical or horizontal rows.

Abstract: A method and apparatus to alert motorists of an impending change of a traffic signal includes a traffic signal assembly (10) including individual red, yellow and green signal lights, with control circuitry (2) to sequentially illuminate the green signal light as a constant green for a first portion T1a of time interval T1, followed by a flashing green for a second portion T1b of interval T1, after which the yellow signal illuminates for time T2, the red signal for a time T3, and the cycle repeats. Thus, instead of the green light remaining constantly illuminated during its entire period of timed operation, the modified circuitry causes the green light to flash for the last portion of its operation, thereby indicating to the motorist that the signal is about to change to yellow.

The system may also preempt driver control of the braking system and begin braking the vehicle automatically prior to its entry into the intersection.

Abstract: This invention provides an apparatus for stopping the idling of an automobile engine, a system for relating the apparatus to a traffic signal device and further a signal display apparatus for supplying a driver information such as idling stop of the automobile engine and the like in relation to the system in order to prevent generation of exhaust gases caused by unnecessary engine idling when an automobile is stopped at a traffic signal and the like. A period of time tS corresponding to the period of time until the traffic signal of a traffic signal device is changed to green is calculated based on a signal received from by the traffic signal device. A period of time T, which serves as a base for determining whether idling is to be stopped or not, is determined based on the calculated period of time tS. The idling of the automobile engine is stopped only when the period of time T satisfies a predetermined condition.
