  • Patent number: 7974773
Abstract: A system for providing taxi navigation information to a pilot of an aircraft is comprised of a navigation system; a taxi navigation module consisting of, in part, a processor and database; and an indicating system consisting of, in part, a tactical display unit system (e.g., a primary flight director (“PFD”), and head-up display (“HUD”) of an aircraft. A navigation system may provide aircraft position data of the aircraft while it is on the ground. A processor receives the aircraft position data, retrieves taxi navigation symbology based upon the aircraft position data from a taxi navigation database, and provides this data to the indicating system. The indicating system generates the display of taxi navigation information on a display unit which, in turn, provides the pilot with an egocentric view of airport signage using colored aviation signage symbology.

Abstract: A user interface system includes a user interface and a plurality of torsion bars. The user interface is configured to rotate, from a null position, about two perpendicular rotational axes. The plurality of torsion bars are coupled to the user interface and include two or more torsion bars disposed along a first one of the rotational axes and two or more torsion bars disposed along a second one of the rotational axes. Each torsion bar is configured to selectively supply a feedback force to the user interface that opposes the rotational direction and that varies as a function of the control position and the rotational direction. The system provides for the setting and adjustment of a preload force to the user interface, for retaining the set preload force, for passively returning the user interface to its null position, and for preventing each passive mechanism from introducing additional force into adjacent vectors.

Abstract: A flight deck display system for an aircraft or other vehicle includes a first data source of visual feature data that is indicative of visual features of a location of interest, a second data source of flight data for the aircraft, a processor architecture, and a display element. The processor architecture is operatively coupled to the first data source and to the second data source, and it is configured to process the visual feature data, process the flight data, and, based upon the visual feature data and the flight data, generate image rendering display commands. The display element receives the image rendering display commands and, in response thereto, renders a dynamic graphical representation of the location of interest using the visual feature data. The dynamic graphical representation of the location conveys an amount of visible detail that varies as a function of the flight data.

  • Patent number: 7797102
Abstract: A flight management system for an aircraft, for executing a flight plan comprising referenced waypoints comprising a start point, an end point and intermediate waypoints, the said aircraft having a specified fuel quantity at the start of the said flight plan, executes a function of monitoring the fuel consumption with respect to at least one threshold value. The function comprises an operation for estimating if the quantity of fuel remaining on board drops below a threshold at any point in the flight plan included between the start point and the end point, and inserts a corresponding pseudo-waypoint in the flight plan, corresponding to the point where the said threshold is passed. The inserted pseudo-point is displayed on screens for displaying the flight plan.

Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method for the processing and presentation of customizable aviation information is disclosed. At plurality of flight information is received over a digital network and is stored in at least a database. The database includes aviation information as well as aviation related content and advertisements. The user is able to customize a series of screen layouts for display using a combination of screen segments containing content stored at least partially in the database. In addition, the user may create personalized messages and status update for display in response to a variety of flight conditions. In one form, the results may be presented using a large display monitor by an aircraft service provider. Additionally, the display may include only flight tracking information relevant to recent and future customers.

  • Patent number: 7787998
Abstract: A method and device for assisting the lateral control of an aircraft running on a runway employ a detector for measuring a lateral deviation of the aircraft relative to a lateral alignment beam transmitted by a radio transmitter installed on the ground, the lateral deviation representing an angular deviation between a straight line passing through the radio transmitter and the detector and the centerline of the runway. A calculator calculates a first distance, defined along the runway, between the position of the pilot in the cockpit and the radio transmitter. A central unit determines, from the lateral deviation and the first distance, a line intended to correspond with the centerline of the runway. A head up display device displays the line on a display screen, superimposed on the environment existing in front of the aircraft and the centerline of the runway.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and the system for algorithmic processing of signals for sound spatialization making it possible to associate sound signals with information that has to be located by a listener, the spatialized sound signals being defined by a virtual position of origin corresponding to the position of the information wherein by algorithmic processing, a spatialized sound signal has an oscillatory movement applied to it describing a sequence of virtual positions of the said signal around the virtual position of origin. The invention applies to man-machine interface applications, notably in a cockpit avionics system. It makes it possible to better locate the information by associating with it a spatialized sound item of information.
