Publication number: 20110156948Abstract: An antenna for communicating with a satellite from a moving vehicle. The antenna comprises a transmitter for generating a transmission signal, main and sub reflectors, and a waveguide associated with the transmitter for conducting the transmission signal toward the sub reflector. The sub reflector is configured for redirecting the transmission signal toward the main reflector; the main reflector is configured for projecting the redirected transmission signal as an antenna beam toward the satellite.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2011Publication date: June 30, 2011Applicant: Mobile Sat Ltd.Inventor: Zacharia BEREJIK

Patent number: 6407702Abstract: A method and a system are disclosed which utilize the polarization properties of electromagnetic fields for a determination of the direction to the source of the electromagnetic radiation. The method and system primarily use a particular antenna device with is associated receiver means for obtaining a wave field measurement Assuming separate frequencies, the present method and system also make it possible to distinguish between several sources and register their separate polarizations simultaneously. At least three electric antennas, or three magnetic antennas, are used to measure the wave field. The registered field components need not be orthogonal to each other. The measured wave field is processed in accordance to predetermined formulae so that the propagation direction and other polarization characteristics, such as the spectral intensity I and the spectral degree of circular polarization rc, are derived. Furthermore the measurements need not be from more than one point in space.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2001Date of Patent: June 18, 2002Assignee: Red Snake Radio Technology ABInventors: Jan Bergman, Tobia Carozzi, Roger Karlsson

Patent number: 6271790Abstract: A communications system in which a communications channel is defined at least in part by an electromagnetic wave having a carrier frequency and an electric field vector, the extremity or terminus of which traces a non-linear periodic path at a rotation frequency less than the carrier frequency and greater than zero from the perspective of an observer looking into the axis of propagation of the wave. The transmitter of the communications system launches a wave having such characteristics and modulated with information in a suitable manner. The receiver of the communications system is sensitive to the periodic path and rotation frequency. The combination of the periodic path and the carrier frequency provides selectivity that can be used to define multiple communications channels.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1998Date of Patent: August 7, 2001Assignee: Smith Technology Development LLCInventor: Stephen H. Patent number: 6006070Abstract: A communications system that uses electromagnetic waves. The communications system preferably operates in the millimeter-wave frequencies, and provides relatively high signal restoration and isolation. The communications system can use polarization diversity to increase the capacity of a channel. Isolation and restoration features in the transceivers eliminate or reduce the effects of precipitation and/or reflection and diffraction from objects, and thus is well-suited for an urban environment.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1997Date of Patent: December 21, 1999Assignee: Telecommunications Equipment CorporationInventor: Thomas T. Patent number: 5507020Abstract: A communications system is disclosed for spectrum sharing of a microwave point-to-point system and a PCS system. The invention comprises a microwave communications system. This system includes a transmitter for transmitting a first signal and a second signal. The first signal and the second signal are oppositely circularly polarized electromagnetic waves within a predefined frequency range. The system also includes a receiver for receiving the first and second signals. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention the receiver may further include a first microwave receiver for receiving the first signal. It would then include a second receiver for receiving the second signal. The receiver would also include signal combining circuitry for combining the first signal and the second signal to generate a composite signal. It would then include a signal comparator to generate a comparison signal by comparing the average value of the amplitude of the composite signal with a predetermined value.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1994Date of Patent: April 9, 1996Assignee: AirTouch Communications of CaliforniaInventor: William C. Patent number: 5099246Abstract: An apparatus for determining the roll position of a spinning projectile with the aid of polarized electro-magnetic radiation comprises a transmitter for emitting polarized radiation in a direction towards the projectile and a polarization-sensitive receiver disposed in the projectile for receiving the polarized radiation. The polarized radiation emitted from the transmitter has an asymmetric wave-form which is formed by superimposing at least two mutually phase-interlocked radiation components of the wavelength relationship of 2:1 and/or multiples thereof, and the polarization-sensitive receiver includes a single receiver antenna.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1989Date of Patent: March 24, 1992Assignee: Aktiebolaget BoforsInventor: Lars-Erik Skagerlund
