Delivery of quasi-periodic pulses of EM energy utilizing the principle of beating-wave amplification
Patent number: 7239262Abstract: The present invention is related a method and system for irradiating a target location or material with high-amplitude narrow pulses of electromagnetic (EM) energy at a periodic or quasi-periodic rate. The method and system comprises generating at least three electromagnetic signals simultaneously in space from at least three sources, each signal having the same repetition rate and a different frequency, and directing each signal to at least one predetermined target, and adjusting the phase of each signal, so that its peak field occurs at the same instant as the occurrence of the peak fields of all the signals at the target.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2006Date of Patent: July 3, 2007Inventor: John M. Patent number: 7080554Abstract: A method and apparatus for monitoring a condition having a known relation to, or influence on, the transit time of a cyclically-repeating energy wave moving through a transmission channel, by: (a) transmitting a cyclically-repeating energy wave through the transmission channel from a transmitter at one end to a receiver at the opposite end; (b) continuously changing the frequency of the transmitter according to changes in the monitored condition while maintaining the number of waves in the transmission channel as a whole integer; and (c) utilizing the changes in frequency of the transmitter to provide a continuous indication of the monitored condition. Operation (b) is preferably performed by detecting a predetermined fiducial point in each cyclically-repeating energy wave received by the receiver, but may also be performed by the use of a phase-locked loop circuit, to maintain the number of energy waves in the loop of the transmission channel as a whole integer.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2004Date of Patent: July 25, 2006Assignee: Nexense Ltd.Inventors: Arie Ariav, Vladimir Ravitch

Patent number: 6856141Abstract: A method and apparatus of measuring a predetermined parameter having a known relation to the transit time of movement of an energy wave through a medium, by transmitting from a first location in the medium a cyclically-repeating energy wave; receiving the cyclically-repeating energy wave at a second location in the medium; detecting a predetermined fiducial point in the cyclically-repeating energy wave received at the second location; continuously changing the frequency of transmission of the cyclically-repeating energy wave from the first location to the second location in accordance with the detected fiducial point of each received cyclically-repeating energy wave received at the second location such that the number of waves received at the second location from the first location is a whole integer; and utilizing the change in frequency to produce a measurement of the predetermined parameter.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2003Date of Patent: February 15, 2005Assignee: Nexense Ltd.Inventor: Arie Ariav

Patent number: 5617098Abstract: A multichannel radar system for use on a motor vehicle has a plurality of transmission and reception channels each composed of an AM or FM signal generator for generating an AM or FM signal including a carrier which is amplitude- or frequency-modulated by a modulation signal, transmission and reception antennas for radiating the generated AM signal and receiving a return signal reflected by an obstacle, an amplifier for amplifying the received return signal, and either a detector for detecting the amplified return signal or a mixer for mixing the amplified return signal with the FM signal generated by the FM signal generator thereby to generate a beat signal. A power supply circuit supplies DC voltages respectively to the AM or FM signal generators and the amplifiers of the respective transmission and reception channels in a time-division multiplex manner at successive times.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1995Date of Patent: April 1, 1997Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Takurou Koyanagi, Hiroyuki Andou, Takaaki Nagai

Patent number: 5125736Abstract: An optical range finder includes two detectors for minimizing frequency dispersion affects of the detectors on the system. The optical range finder is calibrated by locking a voltage controlled oscillator onto adjacent null modulation signal frequencies and determining a calibration time for each adjacent frequency. Once the calibration time is determined, the range finder transmits its modulated light signal to a target device and back. The signal reflected back is detected and a measurement time delay is calculated for each of the adjacent modulation signal frequencies. From these measurements, the actual distance between the target and the device can be calculated. The multiple frequency measurements allows for statistical averaging of random errors in the system.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1990Date of Patent: June 30, 1992Assignee: Harris CorporationInventors: Roy A.
