Abstract: Systems and methods for generating an overview for videos by reconstructing a representation of underlying content and linking from points in the overview to specific points in the video. Mechanisms are provided to create three different types of navigable overviews for different types of how-to and instructional videos. A two-dimensional overview is generated when content is two-dimensional, such as instructional videos on electronic whiteboard or other flat content. The three-dimensional overview is created when the content is three-dimensional, such as how-to videos illustrating the use of specific three-dimensional tangible articles. In three-dimensional case, when 3D model is available, the video segments are directly linked to corresponding points on the model. When a model is not available, a rough overview is first created from the captured video and camera orientation metadata.

  • Patent number: 9791935
Abstract: A method for gesture detection comprises pre-processing and main-processing steps, wherein the pre-processing comprises emitting light using a light emitting device and generating of directional sensor signals as a function of time by detecting a fraction of the emitted light reflected by means of a movable object using a directional light sensor array). The main-processing comprises calculating coordinates as a function of time by using the directional sensor signals, being indicative of a position of the object with reference to a plane parallel to a principal plane of the light sensor array, and detecting a movement of the object depending on the timing of the coordinates.

  • Patent number: 9785233
Abstract: An image of a user's eyes and/or face, captured by a camera on the computing device or on a device coupled to the computing device, may be analyzed using computer-vision algorithms, such as eye tracking and gaze detection algorithms, to determine the location of the user's eyes and estimate the gaze information associated with the user. A user calibration process may be conducted to calculate calibration parameters associated with the user. These calibration parameters may be taken into account to accurately determine the location of the user's eyes and estimate the location on the display at which the user is looking. The calibration process may include determining a plane on which the user's eyes converge and relating that plane to a plane of a screen on which calibration targets are displayed.

  • Patent number: 9786246
Abstract: An apparatus for viewing augmented reality images in a hands-free manner includes a tracker base in which various interchangeable trackers may be placed. The interchangeable trackers include an image specialized to an application framework running on a device with an image capture device in range of the image. An arm connects to and extends from the tracker base, and includes a clasp for holding the device. With the augmented reality application running, the device provides a display of the augmented reality images associated with the image on the interchangeable tracker in a hands-free manner. The tracker base spins, providing different viewpoints of the augmented reality images. The tracking element and the image capture device are held in a fixed spatial relationship with respect to one another, resulting in a stable image. The apparatus provides interactions in a multi-system environment by invoking commands between the device and an external multimedia component.

Embodiments of the system, in the context of an SOE, process low-level data from a plurality of sources of spatial tracking data and analyze these semantically uncorrelated spatiotemporal data and generate high-level gestural events according to dynamically configurable implicit and explicit gesture descriptions. The events produced are suitable for consumption by interactive systems, and the embodiments provide one or more mechanisms for controlling and effecting event distribution to these consumers. The embodiments further provide to the consumers of its events a facility for transforming gestural events among arbitrary spatial and semantic frames of reference.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for gesture-based control using three-dimensional information extracted over an extended depth of field. The system comprises a plurality of optical detectors coupled to at least one processor. The optical detectors image a body. At least two optical detectors of the plurality of optical detectors comprise wavefront coding cameras. The processor automatically detects a gesture of the body, wherein the gesture comprises an instantaneous state of the body. The detecting comprises aggregating gesture data of the gesture at an instant in time. The gesture data includes focus-resolved data of the body within a depth of field of the imaging system. The processor translates the gesture to a gesture signal, and uses the gesture signal to control a component coupled to the processor.
