Abstract: An apparatus and method for inputting a character using a keyboard displayed on a touch screen in a portable terminal. The apparatus and method determines if a touch signal is generated, with the keyboard displayed. Upon generation of the touch signal, a touched character is recognized by analyzing the touch signal. The character is displayed enlarged in a predetermined screen area. It is then determined if the touch has been completed, while the character is displayed enlarged. Upon sensing the touch completion, the character is displayed in a main screen area.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a capacitive touch system and method with auto-calibration. A driving signal generator provides driving signals to first electrodes, thereby resulting in induced signals on second electrodes. An induced signal receiver receives and processes the induced signals. The induced signals associated with at least some no-touch points are measured and pre-stored in an initial value generator, which, at the beginning of a measuring period, generates initial induced signals of the second electrodes according to the pre-stored induced signals for initializing the induced signal generator.

Abstract: A touch sensor panel which has been calibrated to be insensitive to effects from an external force applied to the panel is provided. Touch sense circuitry settings are adjusted during a calibration procedure so that when a force is exerted on the device, no change in the touch signal DC level is seen. In this way, the ability of the touch sensor panel to detect touch or proximity events is not affected by a force being applied to the panel.

  • Patent number: 8531412
Abstract: A method and system for processing touch input. A computing device with a touch-sensing interface may maintain a stored size value for touch input by a known user. The computing device may detect and then determine a size of a touch input. The computing device may then compare the determined size of the detected touch input to the stored size value for the known user's tough input. Based on this comparison, the computing device may process the touch input. For example, in response to the touch input, the computing device may (a) take a first action if the determined size exceeds the stored size value by a first value, and (b) otherwise, take a second action. In one aspect, before using the stored size value for the known user's touch input, the computing device may identify a current user of the computing device as the known user.

Abstract: An equalized capacitive touchpad and a touch positioning method for a capacitive touchpad use an equalizer to correct a sensed value detected from a sensing line of the capacitive touchpad, to thereby offset the attenuation of the sensed value due to the impedance of the sensing line. Thus, the sensed values generated from different positions along a sensing line are equalized, and the touch positioning accuracy of the capacitive touchpad is improved.

  • Patent number: 8518277
Abstract: A method of removing portions of a conductive layer comprising a transparent conductive material and/or a metallic material disposed on a plastic substrate used for capacitive touchscreen devices includes providing a plastic substrate having a conductive layer disposed on a surface thereof and removing portions of the conductive layer at the surface of the plastic substrate to establish a pattern of electrically isolated conductive portions on the surface of the plastic substrate. The conductive portions or traces are electrically connected to a touchscreen controller, which is operable to determine a location of a touch or proximity of an object at or near the surface of the plastic substrate responsive to a detected change in capacitance. The removal process may comprise etching or laser ablating portions of the conductive layer at the surface of the plastic substrate.

  • Patent number: 8513546
Abstract: When a user holds an optical scanning device to scan a micro dotmap on a displaying medium, a coordinate of a frame center of a retrieved frame on the displaying medium is calculated according to a decoding method for the micro dotmap in advance. A moving vector corresponding to a difference between difference frames scanned by the optical scanning device at different moments is calculated so that an instant location of the frame center on the displaying medium can be calculated anytime. Therefore, a large number of calculations brought by frequent decoding may be saved since merely a few calculations are required in calculating the moving vector. By further decoding the coordinate of the frame center at moments spaced with constant or variable intervals, errors brought by vibrations of the displaying medium are instantly fixed. Accumulated errors are avoided in the calculated instant locations of the frame center anytime.
