  • Patent number: 11782534
Abstract: A stylus includes a pen-tip; a sensor; and a processor operable to: operate in a lower-power mode and a higher-power mode; detect, with the sensor, a defined frequency or a defined range of frequencies indicating shaking of the stylus; and transition from the lower-power mode to the higher-power mode in response to the detection of the defined frequency or the defined range of frequencies. The processor is prevented from transitioning from the lower-power mode to the higher-power mode in response to detection of a frequency other than the defined frequency and a range of frequencies other than the defined range of frequencies. The processor, in response to a relative motion between the stylus and a device in communication with the stylus, process both a device signal representative of the relative motion and a stylus signal representative of the detection of the defined frequency or the defined range of frequencies.

Abstract: An electronic device comprises a display for displaying data stored on said electronic device; input means; sensing means for sensing the three-dimensional position of the input means relative to said device; and control means for controlling the data displayed on said display in dependence on the three-dimensional position of the input means relative to said device. The input means includes a source of electromagnetic radiation for directing an infrared conical beam onto the display. The sensing means can sense the elliptical eccentricity of the electromagnetic radiation incident on the display to determine the angle at which it strikes the display, and can sense the area of the electromagnetic radiation incident on the display to determine the distance of the input means from the display.

Abstract: The optical pen includes a transparent head, an optical source, an optical sensor, a first optical fiber module, a second bundled optical fiber, and a microcontroller. The first optical fiber module includes at least two first bundled optical fibers. Opposite ends of each first bundled optical fiber are respectively adjacent to the transparent head and the optical source. The first bundled optical fibers guide the light from the optical source to a reflective surface. The second bundled optical fiber is arranged between the first bundled optical fibers. The second bundled optical fiber guides the light reflected from the reflective surface to the optical sensor. The optical sensor converts the reflected light to electrical signals. The microcontroller processes the electrical signals to generate corresponding control signals and transmits the control signals to an external electronic device.

  • Patent number: 8094139
Abstract: An electronic pen capable of recording position data representative of its movement runs a time handling method. In this method, a counter is operated to sequentially generate a monotonous sequence of counter values. Further, a time calculator is operated to generate a current time value. Also, a control device is operated to derive a current counter value from the counter and the current time value from the time calculator, and to associate at least a subset of the position data with the current counter value and the current time value. If each subset defines a pen stroke, counter values may represent the order in which pen strokes were created. The pen may allow an external device to arbitrarily adjust the time calculator, e.g. to reflect a local time, since the resulting time values need not be used to determine the mutual order of the pen strokes.
