  • Patent number: 8310407
Abstract: A large display is provided for the representation of medical images. The large display comprises at least a first and a second zone which can be controlled and operated independently of each other. Furthermore, an image configuration is provided which describes the representation on the large display during normal operation. Also provided is an emergency image configuration which describes the representation in the second zone of the large display in the event of failure or fault of the representation in the first zone. In the event of a fault, provision is made for switching over to an emergency operating mode in which the representation in the second zone is determined by the emergency configuration. The present embodiments have the advantage of providing protection against a failure of the large display, failure of which would disrupt medical operation.

Abstract: Automatic annotation of recorded lectures includes the annotation of recorded presentations as presented on a computer screen during a presentation. Such annotation is accomplished with metadata that indicates the original slide and the time in the presentation that the slide was presented. Registration of the presentation tags the presentation with this metadata, which uniquely identifies the presentation and each slide. The metadata enables future searching of the recorded presentation for the annotation, such that segments of recorded presentations in which the slide was presented can be recalled. The searching function can also be used in an integrated system with other applications to enable recall of segments of relevant recorded presentations.

  • Patent number: 8248425
Abstract: Graphics display adapters for driving multiple display monitors have become very popular. Graphics display adapters that drive multiple monitors can be used to provide terminal services to multiple independent terminals or be used to provide multiple displays to a single user. Generating video signals for multiple display systems puts a heavy burden on the video memory system since multiple different video signal generators may read from associated frame buffers in a shared video memory system. In one disclosed embodiment, a plurality of video memory read triggers are provided wherein at least two of which are staggered to reduce the load on the video memory system. In response to each read trigger, display data is read from a frame buffer to an associated video signal generation circuit. Each video signal generation circuit then provides a display signal to an associated display screen in a multi-screen environment.

  • Patent number: 7876287
Abstract: A system with a main monitor for a host computer and a second, mini monitor for displaying a portion of the display normally intended for the main monitor. In one embodiment, the mini monitor is connected to the computer over a shared, peripheral bus, such as the universal serial bus (USB). The smaller size of the mini monitor and either compression or slower refresh rates allow it to be connected to the USB just like other peripheral devices.

  • Patent number: 7847755
Abstract: Changed Host Display Information (HDI) may be captured, selectively encoded, and optionally transmitted between participants over a session. Hints indicative of which portions of the HDI may have changed are collected and used to select areas of HDI for processing. Changed HDI is encoded using an encoding process selected from a number of encoding processes by determining which process is likely to efficiently encode that portion of the HDI. Where the HDI is divided into tiles for processing the encoding method selection may take place on a tile-by-tile basis, for example by counting the number of colors in the tile to be encoded. Changed HDI may be transmitted to viewers using paint commands containing pixel information and copy commands indicating that a portion of the HDI has been moved.

Abstract: A method and device that support automatic scaling of display output of a shared application are described. Display output of a shared application from a device with large display (33) is received at a device with small display (31) and scaled down to fit the boundaries of device with small display (31). This scaled down display output is then shown as overall content (44) in background layer (40) on device with small display (31). Information about work area view (46) is also received at the device with small display (31) and is mapped to contents of the background layer (40). Then mapped contents are automatically scaled up to user defined levels and displayed in foreground layer (41). The contents of foreground layer (41) may be fixed or may be synchronized with changes in work area view (46) at device with large display (33).

Abstract: An integrated information presentation system that includes environmental controls is described that at least enhances the experience of giving or viewing a presentation. During the giving of a presentation, multiple controls are available in the system which enable the presenter to have direct control of the presentation environment. The system, for example, makes it easier to give presentations, both public and private, using computer-aided text, images, and sounds, yet it is far from just a tool to be used during these events themselves. Using this system, it is possible, for example, for presenters to practice a presentation before actually giving it, to transmit a presentation, either pre-recorded or live, from a remote location(s), to record a presentation for later distribution, to view a pre-recorded or live presentation from a remote location(s), or to upload a video or audio message to a website.

Abstract: A mobile communication terminal which senses a counterpart mobile communication terminal located within a predetermined range by using local area communication and displays a character corresponding to the sensed counterpart mobile communication terminal on its screen. After character cooperation, the mobile communication terminal transmits reproduced music or a user's spoken comment to counterpart mobile communication terminals by using the local area communication. Also, the mobile communication terminal outputs a sound signal transmitted from a counterpart mobile communication terminal by using the local area communication. Therefore, mobile communication terminals can share music with each other, so that the users can enjoy various types of communication by forming a virtual community space.
