The present inventor recognized that these communications are often inconvenient because the IM programs are isolated from the financial information. Accordingly, he devised systems, methods, and software that integrate IM and other communications-related functions into financial-data displays. Ultimately, one of more of these or other embodiments promise improved efficiency and convenience of online interactions not only for financial trading partners and others in the financial-services industry, but also for those in any private, public, and commercial domain where rapid or convenient online communication is desirable.

An adaptively sized slider can then be generated relative to the box plot to indicate which part of the distribution is displayed in the list items that fit in the available display area. Another preview includes generating a composite row in the available display area that summarizes the data in one or more of the off-screen portions of the list. Such previews can include the sum or average of the values in the off-screen list items.

In one embodiment, a method is disclosed for accepting a time range into a computing device equipped with a touchscreen by entering a pair of time markers. The method includes displaying on the touchscreen a time bar having a start pad and a stop region. The device receives a first input starting at the start pad and ending at a first location on the time bar and receives a second input starting at the stop region and ending at a second location. The device displays time markers at the first and second locations. The device identifies first and second times corresponding to the first and second locations. The device identifies and displays a time range based on the first and second times.

    Abstract: A system and a method are disclosed for visually displaying data points using charts on a display screen with limited display area. A fish-eye distortion region allows presentation of detailed information for some data points compared to other data points that are displayed. The chart can be moved relative to the distortion region thereby changing the data points displayed within the fish-eye that present additional information. The relative movement between the chart and the distortion region is triggered by different kinds of inputs from the user including, tilting of the device, swiping with a pointing device and selecting a particular data point.

The generated provenance graph is stored in a repository for use in analyzing the meeting.

Drawing connecting lines between two or more graphical shapes within an application can be a time consuming, manual task. An application that automatically generates connecting lines between shapes, based on spatial relationships among the shapes, can reduce the amount of time for drawing a diagram. Functionality can be implemented to generate connecting lines between 1:n shapes based on proximity among the shapes and/or contact between shapes. Automatically generating connecting lines among shapes based on spatial relationships among the shapes allows generating of the connecting lines based on manipulation of shapes, which typically have a larger surface area than a line. Manipulating a larger surface area can be easier than manipulating a line.
