Diverse Display Devices Patents (Class 345/5)
  • Patent number: 5357355
Abstract: A double sided panel display unit produces visual images on both side thereof, and comprises a luminescent panel display with a transparent substrate, a liquid crystal shutter sandwiched between two polarizing plates different in angle of polarization at 90 degrees, and a liquid crystal display supplied with light through the transparent substrate, wherein the liquid crystal shutter and the liquid crystal display are controlled in such a manner that the same visual images are displayed on the polarizing plate as well as on the liquid crystal display, thereby achieving a thin double sided panel display with a small number of components.

  • Patent number: 5327153
Abstract: A display arrangement for displaying an image for a viewer on the basis of at least two variables for each picture element such as a picture element position and picture element information includes a first and a separate second display element arranged at a distance from one another in the optical viewing range of the viewer and an element for mutual synchronization therebetween with each display element of the display arrangement reproducing at least one variable. The first and second display elements are arranged along a line creating a viewing direction for the viewer, which essentially coincides with the direction from the viewer to the first display element and the second display element is arranged in the immediate vicinity of the viewer and is carried by the viewer to follow his movements whereby viewing is invariant in space.

  • Patent number: 5305464
Abstract: A method and apparatus for identifying the channel to which a receiver is tuned includes a controller having a microprocessor, a ROM for storage of programs, a RAM for storage of data and a data storage and communication device; a controlled panel mounted adjacent a light emitting diode (LED) display on the receiver that displays the channel to which the receiver is tuned; and a light detection device mounted in association with the panel. The panel normally is maintained transparent so that the LED display may be readily seen through the panel. In order to determine the number being displayed on the LED display, selected portions of the panel are sequentially rendered transparent while the remaining portions of the panel are maintained opaque. The controller determines which selected portions of the panel have light being transmitted therethrough from the LED display.
