  • Patent number: 11443481
Abstract: This disclosure describes implementations of a three-dimensional (3D) scene recovery system that reconstructs a 3D scene representation of a scene portrayed in a single digital image. For instance, the 3D scene recovery system trains and utilizes a 3D point cloud model to recover accurate intrinsic camera parameters from a depth map of the digital image. Additionally, the 3D point cloud model may include multiple neural networks that target specific intrinsic camera parameters. For example, the 3D point cloud model may include a depth 3D point cloud neural network that recovers the depth shift as well as include a focal length 3D point cloud neural network that recovers the camera focal length. Further, the 3D scene recovery system may utilize the recovered intrinsic camera parameters to transform the single digital image into an accurate and realistic 3D scene representation, such as a 3D point cloud.

In the present invention, parallax information is utilized to store, in a recording medium, stereoscopic video including left-eye images and right-eye images. Particularly, for video content that contains stereoscopic images, information is obtained regarding the amount of variation in parallactic angle having a given or larger value, a variation time that the variation in parallactic angle takes, and the number of times that the variation in parallactic angle occurs. An evaluation value is calculated that corresponds to the degree of eye fatigue on the basis of the amount of variation, the variation time, and the number of times of the variation. According to the present invention, the video content is encoded in such a manner that the evaluation value is within a given range, and then recorded in the recording medium.

  • Patent number: 10740876
Abstract: In one embodiment, a system may access a training sample from a training dataset, including a training image of a scene and a corresponding depth map. The system may access a circle-of-confusion map for the scene, which is generated based on the depth map and encodes a desired focal surface in the scene. The system may generate an output image by processing the training image, the corresponding depth map, and the corresponding circle-of-confusion map using a machine-learning model. The system may update the machine-learning model based on a comparison between the generated output image and a target image depicting the scene with a desired defocus-blur effect. The updated machine-learning model is configured to generate images with defocus-blur effect based on input images and corresponding depth maps.

  • Patent number: 10733943
Abstract: Disclosed are embodiments of in-situ display monitoring and calibration systems and methods. An image acquisition system captures images of the viewing plane of the display. Captured images may then be processed to characterize various visual performance characteristics of the display. When not in use capturing images of the display, the image acquisition system can be stored in a manner that protects it from environmental hazards such as dust, dirt, precipitation, direct sunlight, etc. A calibration image in which a plurality of light emitting elements is set to a particular color and intensity may be displayed, an image then captured, and then a difference between what was expected and what was captured may be developed for each light emitting element. Differences between captured images and expected images may be used to create a calibration data set which then may be used to adjust the display of further images upon the display.

  • Patent number: 10663923
Abstract: System and methods for efficiently generating a high quality patterned-phase-only hologram that can be displayed on a single device. A digital image of a holographed subject is measured as a distribution of the intensity of pixels in the image, or as an intensity image, and uniformly partitioned into a plurality of non-overlapping image blocks. A phase mask is applied to each pixel in each image block and assigned a value in the range of [0,2?). The pixels are modulated with a phase value corresponding to the value applied by the phase mask, creating a modified intensity image. A complex hologram is generated from the modified intensity image. The complex hologram is generated utilizing a fast hologram generation process and then converted into a patterned-phase-only hologram. A short sequence of the patterned-phase holograms can be displayed to enhance the visual quality of the displayed holographic images.
