  • Patent number: 9412191
Abstract: The generation of characters within computer animations is currently a labor intensive and expensive activity for a wide range of businesses. Whereas prior art approaches have sought to reduce this loading by providing reference avatars, these do not fundamentally overcome the intensive steps in generating these reference avatars, and they provide limited variations. According to the invention a user is provided with a simple and intuitive mechanism to affect the weightings applied in establishing the physical characteristics of an avatar generated using an inheritance based avatar generator. The inheritance based generator allowing, for example, the user to select a first generation of four grandparents, affect the weightings in generating the second generation parents, and affect the weightings in generating the third generation off-spring avatar from these parents.

Abstract: An approach is provided to efficiently and accurately process and align of one or more portions of a plurality of data point clouds. A processing platform may cause a segmentation of at least one first geo-registered point cloud and at least one second geo-registered point cloud based, at least in part, on an application of a ground surface threshold to one or more respective points in the at least one first geo-registered point cloud and the at least one second geo-registered point cloud. The processing platform may further cause a processing and/or facilitating a processing of the one or more respective points that are above the ground surface threshold to determine a horizontal offset for a horizontal alignment of the at least one first geo-registered point cloud and the at least one second geo-registered point cloud.

  • Patent number: 8976187
Abstract: A system aids composited graphics rendering. A script and corresponding virtual machine engine code may be stored in memory. An off-screen buffer is generated in the memory by the script. The off-screen buffer includes an extended stage having first a buffer portion. The buffer portion may include pre-rendered graphical object. An on-screen buffer may include a composition of the pre-rendered graphical objects of the extended stage. The script renders a graphical change to the on-screen buffer using independent block copying, from the extended stage to corresponding target areas in the on-screen buffer, of one or more of the pre-rendered graphics of the extended stage area affected by the graphical changes.

Abstract: A method for displaying contextual semantic data in a graphical overlay includes activating a first lens corresponding to a first domain, and activating at least one first domain context within the first lens. The method also includes, responsive to activating the at least one first domain context within the first lens, displaying the first domain context within the first lens. At least one second domain context is activated and displayed throughout the entire graphical overlay while simultaneously displaying the at least one first domain context within the first lens. Alternatively, the at least one second domain context is displayed within an activated second lens, which corresponds to a second domain, while simultaneously displaying the at least one first domain context within the first lens. By simultaneously displaying the first and second domain contexts, a cross-domain interaction between the first and second domains is identified.

  • Patent number: 8968087
Abstract: A video server is configured to provide streaming video to players of computer games over a computing network. The video server can provided video of different games to different players simultaneously. This is accomplished by rendering several video streams in parallel using a single GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). The output of the GPU is provided to graphics processing pipelines that are each associated with a specific client/player and are dynamically allocated as needed. A client qualifier may be used to assure that only clients capable of presenting the streaming video to a player at a minimum level of quality receive the video stream. Video frames provided by the video server optionally include overlays added to the output of the GPU. These overlays can include voice data received from another game player.

  • Patent number: 8958611
Abstract: A system and method for surgical visualization transform a cut procedure into a visual representation, e.g., during resection via a cutting tool. The system and method obtain shape data, e.g., bone shape data for the bone to be resected, and generate a CSG object model such as a bone model. Another CSG model is also generated, based, for example, on the cutting tool shape. During resection, tool position data is collected and multiple CSG subtraction models are generated based on the cutting tool model and the position data. The CSG bone model and subtraction models are used to create an image space visual representation by merging the CSG subtraction models into a single merged CSG subtraction model and subtracting the single merged CSG subtraction model from the CSG bone model.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an object detection and behavior recognition system using three-dimensional motion data. The system receives three-dimensional (3D) motion data of a scene from at least one sensor, such as a LIDAR sensor. An object is identified in the 3D motion data. Thereafter, an object track is extracted, the object track being indicative of object motion in the scene over time. Through Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) or other comparison techniques, the object track is compared to a database to identify the behavior of the object based on its object track.
