Abstract: Techniques for scale factor based on viewing distance are described. In at least some embodiments, a viewing distance refers to a distance at which a user typically views and/or is viewing a display device. For instance, different displays can be used in different ways and for different purposes, and thus may have different viewing distances. Techniques discussed herein consider the estimated viewing distance of a particular display in determining a scale factor to be applied to visual elements (e.g., graphics) for output via the particular display. A scale factor, for instance, can specify that visual elements are to zoomed-out or zoomed-in prior to be displayed. As detailed herein, this enables a consistent viewing experience to be maintained across different devices with different display sizes and different viewing distances.

  • Patent number: 8823752
Abstract: An image processing system in which a client apparatus transmits RAW image data to a server apparatus, receives a result developed by the server apparatus, and displays onto a display area. The client apparatus reduces the RAW image data to a size suitable to display, transmits to the server apparatus, and requests development processing. At this time, the client apparatus also starts transmission processing of original RAW image data to the server apparatus. While making adjustment of the development processing to reduced RAW image data, the client apparatus and the server apparatus also execute transmission and reception processing of the original RAW image data in parallel therewith. After the development processing of the reduced RAW image data, if there is a request from the client apparatus, the server apparatus also executes the development processing of the original RAW image data in a manner similar to the reduced RAW image data.

  • Patent number: 8823749
Abstract: Methods and devices provide an efficient user interface for providing continuous zoom or magnification of a displayed image on a computing device. A user may initiate a zoom-in or zoom-out function by tracing an ellipsoidal shape (e.g., a circle) using a user interface device, such as a touchscreen, touchpad or mouse. The zoom function continues so long as a touchscreen or touchpad are touched, or a mouse button is depressed, and an ellipsoidal path is traced. Zoom-in or magnification scaling factor may be applied to an image in response to a clockwise path trace and a zoom-out or demagnification scaling factor may be applied to an image in response to a clockwise path trace, or vice versa. A visual aid may be presented on the display that may be followed to conduct the zoom function.

Abstract: A display control apparatus controls to execute variable magnification processing of a partial image of an image indicated by a display range, and displays the partial image in a display area. The display control apparatus includes a calculation unit which obtains a vertex/vertexes of the display range farthest from a center of the image and sets the vertex or a center point of the vertexes as a reference point, a changing unit which changes a size of the display range while keeping the position of the reference point, and a moving unit which moves the display range in the image. In addition, a display control unit controls to execute the variable magnification processing of the partial image and displays the partial image in the display area. The calculation unit re-calculates the reference point in response to movement of the display range in the image by the moving unit.

Abstract: A display device to change an image displayed in a display area when the display area is changed includes a memory, a location output unit and a screen display unit. The memory stores size information of a display area displayed on a screen and the image data of the displayed image. The location computing unit computes a start point of the changed display area when the display area is changed. The display unit decodes data corresponding to the size of the display area based on the computed new start point from the image data to display the decoded data in the display area. Since the start point is obtained with center point of the changed display area and its size information and then a display area to be displayed is determined based on the start point, a current search location is maintained even when the screen is swung.

Abstract: Described is a technique for viewing a document page on a small display such as a mobile phone or PDA. The page can come from a scanned document (bitmap image) or an electronic document (text and graphics data plus metadata). The page with text and graphics is segmented into regions. For each region, a scale-distortion function is constructed based on image analysis. During interactive viewing of the document, as the user navigates by moving the viewport around the page, the zoom factor will be automatically adjusted by optimizing the scale-distortion functions of the regions in the viewport.
