Image Superposition By Optical Means (e.g., Heads-up Display) Patents (Class 345/7)
  • Patent number: 9835859
Abstract: An image display device includes a light source that emits a light beam, a screen, a scanning section that scans the screen with the light beam, an optical system, a drive section, and a screen drive circuit. The optical system generates a virtual image by using the light beam that has passed through the screen. The drive section moves the screen at least in parallel to a travel direction of the light beam. The screen drive circuit contains a drive signal table that stores an information group for use in generating a drive signal tailored to stop the screen at different stop locations over different stop periods. The screen drive circuit selects first information in the drive signal table which is associated with displaying of an image and supplies the drive section with a first drive signal generated from the first information.

Abstract: Introduced herein are various techniques for displaying virtual and augmented reality content via a head-mounted display (HMD). The techniques can be used to improve the effectiveness of the HMD, as well as the general experience and comfort of users of the HMD. A binocular HMD system may present visual stabilizers to each eye that allow users to more easily fuse the digital content seen by each eye. In some embodiments the visual stabilizers are positioned within the digital content so that they converge to a shared location when viewed by a user, while in other embodiments the visual stabilizers are mapped to different locations within the user's field of view (e.g., peripheral areas) and are visually distinct from one another. Abstract: By rotating each optical member including an image display apparatus by a rotation unit, it is possible to change an aspect ratio and display an image. At this time, the rotation unit rotates a stop having an opening with a shape corresponding to the shape of an emission surface of image light in a video display element which is a video element of the image display apparatus along with the image display apparatus. Accordingly, even when an image with a horizontally long aspect ratio is shown and even when an image with a vertically long aspect ratio is shown, occurrence of stray light can be suppressed. Thus, guiding of the image light by a light-guiding optical system can be maintained in a good state, and thus good image display can be realized.
