  • Patent number: 5824677
Abstract: Disclosed are compounds having a straight or branched aliphatic hydrocarbon structure of formula I: ##STR1## In formula I, n is an integer from one to four and m is an integer from four to twenty. Independently, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are hydrogen, a straight or branched chain alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl of up to twenty carbon atoms in length or --(CH.sub.2).sub.w R.sub.5. If R.sub.1 or R.sub.2 is --(CH.sub.2).sub.w R.sub.5, w may be an integer from one to twenty and R.sub.5 may be an hydroxyl, halo, C.sub.1-8 alkoxyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted carbocycle or heterocycle. Alternatively, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 may jointly form a substituted or unsubstituted, saturated or unsaturated heterocycle having from four to eight carbon atoms, N being a hetero atom of the resulting heterocyle. R.sub.3 may be either hydrogen or C.sub.13. In the compounds, a total sum of carbon atoms comprising R.sub.1 or R.sub.2, (CH.sub.2).sub.n and (CH.sub.2).sub.m does not exceed forty. R.sub.

  • Patent number: 4369453
Abstract: A moving-medium XY plotter is provided with a platen which has a concave surface extending uniformly in the direction of pen motion. A drive roller and pinch roller assembly located near the bottom of the concavity provides the motion of the recording medium orthogonal to the pen motion, while at the same time curving the recording medium into the shape of a trough. This curvature stabilizes the motion of the recording medium by significantly enhancing its resistance to compressional buckling and ensures that the recording medium, as a result of its natural stiffness, will firmly contact the platen where writing is to occur.

  • Patent number: 4184166
Abstract: Apparatus for recording and displaying a graphic representation of the operating performance of a railroad locomotive by monitoring the response of its engine to a throttle control setting. The apparatus includes a chart paper recording device driven in relation to time and a marking mechanism actuated by a governor and referenced to its balance position at normal operation of the locomotive engine. The marking mechanism includes a pair of fixed styli and a movable stylus for producing a graph on the chart paper. The pair of fixed styli produce a pair of spaced-apart parallel datum traces on the chart paper wherein the area therebetween represents the normal governor balance position for a specified throttle setting. The movable stylus actuated by the governor produces a single trace on the chart paper relative to the parallel datum traces and represents the movement of the governor as it seeks to maintain its normal balance position.

  • Patent number: 4057806
Abstract: An arrangement is described for rapidly and accurately analyzing the movements of a barbell or other weight. The object is positioned in a suitable holder, which is connected by means of a pair of strands to the periphery of a first disc secured to a torsion-biased shaft. The strands extend, intermediate their ends, through opposed ends of the crosspiece of a T-shaped pendulum whose central arm is secured at its free end to a second disc, such second disc being in turn secured to a splined front end of the shaft. A pair of internally toothed racks are carried by the second disc for toothed engagement with the splined end of the shaft, with the racks being confined for movement in mutually perpendicular directions to resolve the motion of the holder and thereby of the object into orthogonal planes. Facilities are provided for recording the separate movements of the first and second racks along a common first coordinate of a recording medium as the medium is advanced along the other coordinate.
