Abstract: A chart recorder or other applicable instrument uses the recording medium for programming purposes, thereby obviating the need for additional keypads and/or displays. By placing the recording medium onto the recorder, and by moving the pen and/or medium to select among the available options, the unit is automatically programmed in accordance with the selections. Position is known due to the spatial alignment with a start position, resulting in an unambiguous programming. In addition to circular chart recorders, the invention applies to strip-chart recorders, plotters, printers, and other pieces of equipment wherein the position of a marker and/or paper or other substrate is known or determinable. An advantage of the invention is that the chart is produced in confirmation of the settings, thereby leaving a user or operator with a printed record of the way in which the unit was programmed.

Abstract: The present apparatus concerns round monitoring and includes a portable recording device together with a plurality of keys for indicating different locations through which a watchman is to pass. In order to simplify the drive mechanism of the apparatus, the apparatus comprises a clock movement (20) having an hours shaft on which a disk (34) is mounted having time data print elements (36) disposed around its rear face. A strip of paper (50) is displaced between said print elements (34) and a print hammer (52).

Abstract: A bi-directional pen plotter includes two pen stables and a pen holder located between the two pen stables for snatching a pen from either pen stable and for inserting a pen into either pen stable. There are four distinct stops to the motion of the pen holder at each pen stable depending on the four possible combinations of pen locations. Measuring the relative distances travelled by the pen holder in an initialization procedure the positions of all of the pens in the system may be determined uniquely.

Abstract: A watchman's tour recording system which includes a watchman's unit having a clock means for producing digital time signals, a station identification signal producing means for producing digital station signals, at least two digital bit storage or memory means and special address means arranged to direct the digital time and station identification signals into predetermined locations in the memory means so that their storage capabilities are most effectively utilized. Novel photoelectric station identification signal generating means are also disclosed.
