Plural Heads Patents (Class 347/117)
  • Patent number: 5796422
Abstract: An electrostatic printing apparatus includes a rotating transfer drum having an outer transfer surface. A plurality of direct toner projection units are positioned adjacent the transfer surface of the rotating transfer drum to project toner patterns of different colors onto the transfer surface in response to modulated signals. After the patterns are applied to the drum, they are transferred to paper and fused. The drum is constructed of two components: a base layer or core which is conductive, and a surface layer which is chosen primarily for its surface properties. The surface layer is conductive enough to allow toner particles to dissipate their electrical charges before additional toner is applied by downstream toner projection units.

  • Patent number: 5793889
Abstract: A method and system of image modulation detection of an aircraft exhaust plume by time sequence differentiation is provided. The method comprises the steps of forming two sequential images of the field of view in which an exhaust plume to be detected is located, and forming a differential image from the sequential images showing components of the aircraft's exhaust plume that are modulating at a rate greater than the frame rate of the detection system. The nonmodulating components such as the sky hills, and even the missile body are eliminated from the differential image. Only the plume remains and only the plume is detected. Therefore there is not false alarm note. Each image is formed by a plurality of pixels, wherein each pixel images a portion of the field of view. A value is assigned to each pixel in each of the sequential images that corresponds to one or more characteristics of the pixel.

  • Patent number: 5751329
Abstract: A color printer incorporating the invention hereof includes an ionographic image projection head which employs AC and DC potentials to provide an ion pool from which ions may be projected onto a movable dielectric surface. Plural developer modules are arranged about the dielectric surface, each developer module including an ion imaging head and a color toner module. Each developer module, after ion-beam imaging the movable dielectric surface, develops the charge image on the dielectric surface by bringing it into contact with a single color toner module. A processor controls each ionographic image projection head and each associated toner module to immediately apply the color toner after imaging of the dielectric surface. A transfer station is located downstream from the plural developer modules and enables transfer of the full color toned image from the dielectric surface to a sheet after a single pass of the dielectric surface past the plural developer modules.

  • Patent number: 5745142
Abstract: A linear printhead is aligned across the direction of motion of a belt or web image member. The printhead is coupled to a roller supporting the belt which is castered about a caster axis. The castering of the roller causes it to align itself across the direction of motion of the image member. The printhead is responsive to this alignment of the roller for its own alignment.

  • Patent number: 5729884
Abstract: A method of assembling a print head for an electrographic printer includes the steps of providing a flexible sheet having a microchannel print structure having a longitudinal axis and a plurality of alignment features relative to the longitudinal axis; providing a magnetic brush having a cylindrical axis and an outside shell; providing a fixture having alignment features for aligning the flexible sheet on the outside shell of the magnetic brush such that the longitudinal axis of the microchannel print structure is aligned parallel to the cylindrical axis of the magnetic brush and for conforming the microchannel print structure to the surface of the outside shell; andplacing the flexible sheet and the magnetic brush in the fixture and attaching the flexible sheet to the outside shell of the magnetic brush.

  • Patent number: 5589858
Abstract: In an apparatus wherein a recording medium is conveyed by a conveying system with the front surface of the recording medium opposed to recording heads and information is recorded on the recording medium by liquid droplet jet, a first speed meter is provided on the back side of the recording medium and further, a second speed meter for detecting liquid droplet jet speed together with the first speed meter is provided at a predetermined location, whereby the recording position is adjusted. The first and second speed meters may preferably be optical Doppler velocimeters which will not cause any speed detection error with fluctuation of the wavelength of a light source.

  • Patent number: 5465111
Abstract: An image forming apparatus for forming images on a recording medium on the basis of an electrophotography system includes a calculator for determining the quantities of state and quantities of control using fuzzy sets and for calculating, for each color, quantities of control. Each quantity of control corresponds to one of the detected quantities of state from a degree to which the quantity of state belongs to each fuzzy set. An extractor for extracting, in accordance with predetermined rules, a main quantity of control for each color in a specific position within the area represented by each quantity of control calculated by the calculator.
