  • Patent number: 9616661
Abstract: An inkjet device for controlled positioning of a droplet of a substance onto a substrate includes a print head having a nozzle configured to eject the droplet. A camera is configured to detect and generate images of the droplet after ejection of the droplet from the nozzle. If the droplet volume, velocity, flight path, viscosity or surface tension start to deviate from preset values, a computer is configured to correct for this in a closed loop manner. If the droplet fails to eject, the computer is configured to stop the inkjet device and an operator can maintain the print head. The computer is configured to determine viscosity and surface tension of the droplet from characteristics of the droplet identified from the droplet images, and the computer is configured to control the positioning of the droplet onto the substrate during the printing process based on the determined viscosity and surface tension.

Abstract: What is disclosed is a multi-function system which receives media printed with ink having thermo-reactive properties and which processes the received media such that the ink becomes visually transparent. One embodiment of the present system comprises an input tray for receiving printed media into a transport path along which the media travels. A heating element resides in proximity to that transport path for changing a temperature T of the media to T?TH. In various embodiments, a temp-normalizing element is positioned along the transport path downstream of the heating element for changing a temperature of the media such that the media's temperature T can be normalized back to a temperature range TL<<T<<TH prior to the media being deposited into an output tray such that the processed media is no longer hot to the touch. A user interface enables a user to perform various functions. Embodiments of a user interface are disclosed.

The inkjet head ejects ink on a printing medium. The discharge motor causes discharge of the printing medium. The printing medium surface sensor, locates at the upper-stream side of the inkjet head apart from the inkjet head in a printing medium conveyance direction, senses a foreign substance representing an image printed on the printing medium beforehand. The controller drives the discharge motor to discharge a printing medium without ejecting ink from the inkjet head if an after-printing mode in which printing is made on the printing medium on which the image is printed beforehand is not set if the foreign substance is detected on the printing medium through the printing medium surface sensor.
