Abstract: A measuring arrangement and measurement method determine the play of a cartridge pivot unit of an inkjet printing system that has at least one stop for the cartridge pivot unit. The cartridge pivot unit is driven by a first motor via a gear train and is equipped with a first movement sensor to establish a movement of the cartridge pivot unit upon leaving the stop. The cartridge pivot unit moves only when the play of the gear train is overcome. The stop for the cartridge pivot unit is formed by a mobile cleaning and sealing station. A counter is provided to count pulses, the count being representative of the play of the gear train of the cartridge pivot unit counting begins with leaving the mobile stop and continues until the movement of the cartridge pivot unit upon leaving the stop again ensues in conformity with the actuation by the first motor.

Abstract: An inkjet type printer having a recording head is disclosed. The printer includes a cap and a raising and lowering unit. The raising and lowering unit moves the cap between a sealing position at which the cap contacts the recording head and a retreat position at which the cap is separated from the recording head. The raising and lowering unit includes a selection cam, a cleaning mechanism, and a lift lever. The cleaning mechanism supports the cap and the selection cam, and is movable along the moving direction of the cap. The distal end of the lift lever is engaged with the selection cam at a position near the outer circumference of the selection cam, and the proximal end of the lift lever is coupled to a pressure adjustment shaft. The selection cam is raised or lowered while being rotated about the distal end of the lift lever, so that the cap is moved between the sealing position and the retreat position.

Abstract: A printer includes a recording head having a nozzle that ejects ink and a suction pump that draws the ink through the nozzle. A valve unit and a filter are arranged in a passage that supplies the ink to the recording head. A controller of the printer operates the suction pump to perform suction/suspension in which suction of the ink from the passage through the nozzle and suspension of the suction are alternately repeated with the valve unit maintained in a closed state, thus promoting joining of bubbles on the filter. The controller then operates to open the valve unit to drain the joint bubbles from the filter, together with the ink, using negative pressure accumulated in the passage.
