Abstract: Handwritten notes are captured organized and stored by a system as a digital representation. The system includes a notebook having a set of pages, wherein each page has placed thereon a folio identifier representation, such representation including a page identifier. The system also includes a non-transitory computer readable medium encoded with instructions, which, when running on a camera-equipped computing device at a time when the camera thereof views a page of the notebook, cause performance of processes. The processes performed by the instructions include: processing an image associated with the page, detecting and decoding the folio identifier representation to provide a page identifier for the page, and if the image has not been previously captured, then capturing the image of the page and saving the image in an image store.

Abstract: A videoconferencing endpoint includes at least one processor a number of microphones and at least one camera. The endpoint can receive audio information and visual motion information during a teleconferencing session. The audio information includes one or more angles with respect to the microphone from a location of a teleconferencing session. The system evaluates the audio information is evaluated to determine at least one candidate angle corresponding to a possible location of an active talker. The candidate angle can be analyzed further with respect to the motion information to determine whether the candidate angle correctly corresponds to person who is speaking during the teleconferencing session. The person's face can then be framed within a frame view.

  • Patent number: 10095578
Abstract: A method for modifying data stored in a dispersed storage network (DSN). In various embodiments, a data object is received for storage in DSN memory. A dispersed storage processing unit determines a number of data segments for the data object and divides the data object into a plurality of data blocks. The data blocks are allocated to the data segments in a column-row orientation (for example, columns may be populated with successive data blocks of the data object). The data segments are encoded to produce a plurality of sets of encoded data slices. Additional data received for the data object is divided into additional data blocks that are allocated to data segments to create one or more new columns, which are encoded to produce a plurality of encoded data slice addendums. The encoded data slice addendums are then appended to existing encoded data slices corresponding to the data object.

  • Patent number: 10097794
Abstract: A videoconferencing system has a videoconferencing unit that use portable devices as peripherals for the system. The portable devices obtain near-end audio and send the audio to the videoconferencing unit via a wireless connection. In turn, the videoconferencing unit sends the near-end audio from the loudest portable device along with near-end video to the far-end. The portable devices can control the videoconferencing unit and can initially establish the videoconference by connecting with the far-end and then transferring operations to the videoconferencing unit. To deal with acoustic coupling between the unit's loudspeaker and the portable device's microphone, the unit uses an echo canceller that is compensated for differences in the clocks used in the A/D and D/A converters of the loudspeaker and microphone.

  • Patent number: 10014996
Abstract: A method and system for bit-level protection in concurrent downlink coordinated multipoint transmission of bit groups to multiple user equipment devices (UEs) from multiple base stations. Multiple base stations each serving a respective UE and each having a separate bit stream to communicate to its respective served UE will define bit groups across the bit streams, such that each bit group includes at least one bit from each base station's bit stream. Each bit group will be transmitted as a multi-bit data symbol modulated onto a subcarrier frequency. Susceptibility to pairwise confusion between different data symbols due to misidentification of particular bits will be used to determine bit-level protection for various bit positions of the data symbols. Assignment of particular bits of each bit group to particular UEs will include consideration of bit-level protection, such that UEs with lower quality downlink properties will be assigned bits providing higher bit-level protection, and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 9894393
Abstract: A client device requests a streaming video from a storage device, which encodes the video's frame in communication packets according to an encoding protocol for transmission to the client. The client device decodes the communication packets to obtain frame segments and a frame marking header indicating a boundary of the video frame relative to other video frames in the video. The communication packets may also include other segment headers indicating a relative ordering of corresponding frame segments. The client device determines, based on the frame marking header, whether a sufficient number of communication packets have been received to render a video frame. In response to determining that the sufficient number of communication packets has been received, the client device assembles the video frame from the frame segments corresponding to the video frame and presents at least a portion of the video by rendering the assembled video frame.

Abstract: A wireless communication system includes a storage apparatus and a computing device. The storage apparatus includes a connector, a wireless antenna, a nonvolatile first memory having stored therein visual or audio content, a communication controller powered from an induction current generated when a wireless signal is received through the wireless antenna, and a controller powered using the power supplied from the electronic apparatus through the connector. The controller retrieves the visual or audio content from the first memory based on content ID transmitted wirelessly from the computing device and transmits the retrieved visual or audio content to the electronic apparatus for playback by the electronic apparatus. The computing device includes an image capturing unit, extracts feature values from the data of the captured image, and transmits the wireless signal containing the content ID to the storage apparatus, the content ID being determined from the extracted feature values.

Abstract: A system and method for the late-biding of time-based media in real-time. With late binding, the sender may create time-based media before or at the same time an active delivery route to the recipient is discovered. As soon as the route becomes available, the media is transmitted. The existing DNS and email infrastructure is possibly used for route discovery, while any real-time transmission protocol may be used for the actual delivery of the media. “Progressive” emails may also be used for the real-time delivery of time-based media.

Abstract: Techniques are described herein that use sensors (e.g., microphones) for noise reduction in a mobile communication device. For example, one technique enables a first sensor that is initially configured to be a speech sensor to be used as a noise reference sensor. This technique also enables a second sensor that is initially configured to be a noise reference sensor to be used as a speech sensor. Another technique enables a primary sensor and/or a secondary sensor in a handset of a mobile communication device to be used as a speech sensor while a sensor in a headset of the mobile communication device is used as a noise reference sensor, or vice versa. In yet another technique, a secondary sensor in a mobile communication device is configured to be a directional sensor.

  • Patent number: 9769434
Abstract: An application server based in a communication network facilitates help desk support for end users that employ a camera-equipped wearable device. Upon receiving a request from a user for assistance with a problem or task, the application server controls the wearable device to collect multimedia information—e.g., images, video, and sounds—associated with an object of the task. The application server then crowdsources the collected multimedia information to a plurality of other remote user devices. Based on helpful information received from users of the remote devices, and/or an analysis performed at the server, the application server categorizes the task. So categorized, the application server can retrieve pertinent assistance data associated with the task and send that information to the user.
