Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed towards reframing videos from one aspect ratio to another aspect ratio while maintaining visibility of regions of interest. A set of regions of interest are determined in frames in a video with a first aspect ratio. The set of regions of interest can be used to estimate an initial camera path. An optimal camera path is determined by leveraging the identified regions of interest using the initial camera path. Sub crops with a second aspect ratio different from the first aspect ratio of the video are identified. The sub crops are placed as designated using the optimal camera path to generate a cropped video with the second aspect ratio.

Abstract: A videoconferencing endpoint is described that uses a combination of face detection, motion detection, and upper body detection for selecting participants of a videoconference for group framing. Motion detection is used to remove fake faces as well as to detect motion in regions around detected faces during postprocessing. Upper body detection is used in conjunction with the motion detection in postprocessing to allow saving faces that have been initially detected by face detection for group framing even if the participant has turned away from the camera, allowing the endpoint to keep tracking the participants region better than would be possible based only on an unstable result coming from face detection.

Abstract: An exemplary speech presentation system receives a simulated binaural audio signal associated with a media player device that is presenting an artificial reality world to a user. The simulated binaural audio signal is representative of a simulation of sound propagating to an avatar representing the user within the artificial reality world. The speech presentation system further receives acoustic propagation data representative of an aspect affecting propagation of sound to the avatar within the artificial reality world. Based on the acoustic propagation data, the speech presentation system extracts an auto-transcribable speech signal from the simulated binaural audio signal. The auto-transcribable speech signal is representative of speech originating from a speaker within the artificial reality world. Based on the auto-transcribable speech signal, the speech presentation system generates a closed captioning dataset representative of the speech and provides the dataset to the media player device.

Abstract: An asymmetric video conferencing system comprises a panoramic video conferencing device in a first location and a head mounted video conferencing device in a second location. The panoramic video conferencing device acquires panoramic images of multiple participants via a 360 degree camera, identifies a face or other region of interest (ROI) in the panoramic images, and captures video data of the ROI. To reduce bandwidth utilized, the ROI video data is transmitted to the head mounted video conferencing device used by a remote participant, who can command alternative views and audio from the first location. Images and audio of the remote participant can be transmitted to the first location for viewing and hearing by the multiple participants, enabling virtual face-to-face discussions. A method implementing the system is also disclosed herein.
