  • Patent number: 7911498
Abstract: Disclosed is a digital signal processing architecture for a flat panel display having non-uniform regions, which is not by means of materials, optical films or fabrication processes. Therefore, the manufacturing cost and complexity of the flat panel display are not negatively affected. In the digital signal processing architecture, a test is performed on the panel for identifying all pixel locations in non-uniform regions and non-uniform types. Then, input video signals are compared with data about the relative non-uniform regions for determining whether the video signal falls in a normal-region pixel or a non-uniform region pixel. Then the non-uniform compensation on the video signal falling in the non-uniform region pixel is based on the non-uniform type, so that the video signals displayed on the panel are not negatively affected.

  • Patent number: 7079157
Abstract: A graphics system comprises pixel calculation units and a sample buffer which stores a two-dimensional field of samples. Each pixel calculation unit selects positions in the two-dimensional field at which pixel values (e.g. red, green, blue) are computed. The pixel computation positions are selected to compensate for image distortions introduced by a display device and/or display surface. Non-uniformities in a viewer's perceived intensity distribution from a display surface (e.g. hot spots, overlap brightness) are corrected by appropriately scaling pixel values prior to transmission to display devices. Two or more sets of pixel calculation units driving two or more display devices adjust their respective pixel computation centers to align the edges of two or more displayed images. Physical barriers prevent light spillage at the interface between any two of the display images. Separate pixel computation positions may be used for distinct colors to compensate for color distortions.

  • Patent number: 6084564
Abstract: To facilitate determination of a black point on a display unit, a reference brightness region and a comparison brightness region are displayed on the display unit. The former emits at a reference brightness that is used as a reference for determining the black point. The reference brightness is set by inputting a predetermined input value to the display unit. The brightness on the comparison brightness region is compared with the reference brightness. The comparison brightness is changed by increasing and decreasing the input value to the display unit to obtain a critical input value representing the input value wherein an operator can first distinguish the comparison brightness region from the reference brightness region. The two regions are arranged so that the comparison brightness region which is, for example, a star mark is completely surrounded by the reference brightness region, or vice versa.

  • Patent number: 6072546
Abstract: A correct estimation of a focussed condition of the cathode ray tube can be performed. A predetermined image (14) is displayed at a predetermined position on a screen of a cathode ray tube. A focussing voltage of the cathode ray tube is varied in a condition that a distance from a reference position to a predetermined position in the image is detected. When the changing state of the detected distance is displayed on a predetermined display means (11a), an optical low pass filter is arranged in the optical system such as the incident part of a sensor (15) or the like. From an output of the sensor (15), a condition is determined as the just-focussed condition, the under-focussed condition or the over-focussed condition and the beam spot diameter is calculated from the detected line width. On the basis of the decision of the under-focussed or the over-focussed condition and the calculated value of the beam spot diameter, a focus quantitative value is obtained.
