  • Patent number: 9052271
Abstract: Apparatus for interrupting and/or scanning a beam of penetrating radiation, such as for purposes of inspecting contents of a container. A source, such as an x-ray tube, generates a fan beam of radiation effectively emanating from a source axis, with the width of the fan beam collimated by a width collimator, such as a clamshell collimator. An angular collimator, stationary during the course of scanning, limits the extent of the scan, and a multi-aperture unit, such as a hoop, or a nested pair of hoops, is rotated about a central axis, and structured in such a manner that the total beam fluence incident on a target is conserved for different fields of view of the beam on the target. The central axis of hoop rotation need not coincide with the source axis.

  • Patent number: 7583417
Abstract: In bi-directional imaging, such as bi-directional printing, a driving mechanism scans a light beam through a scan path across an imaging window. A controller enables transmission of video data to a modulator when the light beam is positioned for imaging on the imaging window. Video data is transmitted to the modulator when the light beam is traveling in a forward direction or a reverse direction across the imaging window, whereby a modulated light beam is capable of producing an image when traveling in the forward or reverse directions. The controller adjusts scan durations or image rasterization rates to ensure that each scan is properly aligned with the prior and subsequent scan.

  • Patent number: 7370972
Abstract: In a two-dimensional image display device, speckle noise is reduced by a simple construction. A two-dimensional image display device for displaying an image by projecting coherent light onto a projection plane is provided with at least one coherent light source (1a), (1b), (1c) for outputting coherent light, a polarization state modulator 6 for modulating at least one of a polarization state and a phase of the coherent light emitted from the coherent light source, and a birefringent diffusion plate (7) for spatially varying the phase of the coherent light emitted from the polarization state modulator. The polarization states of light spots in the respective pixels of the image displayed on the projection plane are spatially and temporally varied, thereby forming various speckle patterns.

  • Patent number: 6945652
Abstract: Light beams having different wavelengths emitted from red and blue semiconductor lasers and a laser diode pumped green solid-state laser are incident on respectively different surfaces of a color combining element and are overlaid on a single light path. Multiple beam interference films of the color combining element allow only the light beams having the oscillating wavelengths corresponding to the respective light sources to pass therethrough or reflect thereon so as to combine the light beams. A collimator collimates the light beams so that the beam waist of the light beams lies around a projection plane. When two-dimensional scanning is performed by radiating the light beams onto a micromechanical mirror and then onto a galvanometer mirror for scanning light in the horizontal and vertical directions, respectively, a color image is displayed on the projection plane by arranging pixels in array, each pixel consisting of overlapping pulses of light of three colors.

  • Patent number: 6927924
Abstract: An imaging optical instrument causes light emitted from a plurality of light sources arranged adjacent an object to image on recording surfaces of a photosensitive or thermosensitive material. The optical instrument includes a two-sided telecentric optical system having a first lens disposed adjacent an entrance end of a lens barrel, and a second lens disposed adjacent an exit end of the lens barrel, and an aperture stop disposed adjacent a meeting point of a rearward focus of the first lens and a forward focus of the second lens. The aperture stop has an aperture formed centrally thereof for allowing passage of beams that should contribute to image formation, and a refracting portion surrounding the aperture for refracting beams that should be intercepted and causing these beams to leave the lens barrel from the exit end thereof.

  • Patent number: 6812957
Abstract: An image preprocessing apparatus, which processes image signals of an image of a scanned object, includes an image sensing module, a multiplexing unit and an analog signal processor. The image sensing module includes a number of monochrome image sensors, as well as a black-and-white (B/W) image sensor, outputting a number of monochrome analog image signals and a B/W analog image signal respectively. The multiplexing unit receives the B/W analog image signal and some of the monochrome analog image signals and then selects either the B/W analog image signal or these monochrome analog image signals as the output of the multiplexing unit. The analog signal processor receives the output of the multiplexing unit and the monochrome analog image signals that are not received by the multiplexing unit, and outputs a digital signal.

  • Patent number: 6249029
Abstract: A device design for an FET in SOI CMOS which is designed for enhanced avalanche multiplication of current through the device when the FET is on, and to remove the body charge when the FET is off. The FET has an electrically floating body and is substantially electrically isolated from the substrate. The present invention provides a high resistance path coupling the floating body of the FET to the source of the FET, such that the resistor enables the device to act as a floating body for active switching purposes and as a grounded body in a standby mode to reduce leakage current. The high resistance path has a resistance of at least 1 M-ohm, and comprises a polysilicon resistor which is fabricated by using a split polysilicon process in which a buried contact mask opens a hole in a first polysilicon layer to allow a second polysilicon layer to contact the substrate.

  • Patent number: 6088012
Abstract: Kinds of an input video signal is discriminated. Sub-frames are disposed in such an arrangement that a sub-frame corresponding to a most heavy weight bit is located at a central portion of the unit display period, and sub-frames, each of which corresponds to a lighter weight bit than the most heavy weight bit, are disposed at positions before and after the most heavy sub-frame when the input video signal is discriminated as a still picture. Each of sub-frames which correspond to heavy weight bits including a most heavy weight bit is divided into two small sub-frames. The sub-frames are disposed in such an arrangement that small sub-frames corresponding to the most heavy weight bit are located at portions of the unit display period, small sub-frames, each of which corresponds to a lighter weight bit than the most heavy weight bit, at positions before and after the most heavy sub-frame when the input video signal is discriminated as a moving picture.

  • Patent number: 5682035
Abstract: A thermal infrared imaging device (10) includes a thermal detector (50) having a linearly-arrayed plurality of spaced apart detector elements (50', 50", 50"', . . . ). A scene to be viewed is scanned across the detector (50) with successive fields of the scene shifted according the spacing between adjacent detector elements (50', 50", 50"', . . . ) in order to capture image information for the entire scene by interlacing of successive scan lines from the plurality of detector elements (50', 50", 50"', . . . ). Each complete scan of the viewed scene across the detector (50) creates an image field including a scan line for each detector element (50', 50", 50"', . . . ). Each scan line includes plural pixels, or picture elements of the viewed scene, each having a value indicative of the thermal infrared brightness of the viewed scene at the corresponding location along the scan line. An scan-line sum for each scan line is created by adding the absolute values of the pixel values for each scan line.
