Image data associated with a respective image frame of a sequence (1 . . . N) of image frames sensed by said image sensing circuitry and which image frames are imaging said object can be received. For each one (i) of multiple pixel positions, a respective duration value (f(i)) indicative of a largest duration of consecutively occurring local extreme points in said sequence (1 . . . N) of image frames can be computed. A local extreme point is present in a pixel position (i) when an image data value of the pixel position (i) is a maxima or minima in relation to image data values of those pixel positions that are closest neighbors to said pixel position (i).

Abstract: Global matching of pixel data across multiple images. Pixel values of an input image are modified to better match a reference image with a slope thresholded histogram matching function. Visual artifacts are reduced by avoiding large pixel value modifications. For large intensity variations across the input and reference image, the slope of the mapping function is thresholded. Modification to the input image is therefore limited and a corresponding modification to the reference image is made to improve the image matching. More than two images may be matched by iteratively modifying a cumulative mass function of a reference image to accommodate thresholded modification of multiple input images. A device may include logic to match pixel values across a plurality of image frames generated from a plurality of image sensors on the device. Once matched, image frames may be reliably processed further for pixel correspondence, or otherwise.

  • Patent number: 8502882
Abstract: In an image pick-up apparatus 1, when an instruction of setting white balance is given by user's manual operation, a central region of a picked up image is set and further the central region of image is divided into plural regions of image. In each of the plural regions of image, RGB components are detected, and gain values of R and B components are calculated, which make these R and B components equivalent to G component. Further, when a variance of colors of the plural regions of image is less than a predetermined threshold value, it is determined that a picture is taken with a color pattern set at the center of viewing angle, an average of gain values set for the plural regions of image is calculated and the average is supplied to a gain controlling unit 41 to be applied to an image signal.

  • Patent number: 8471953
Abstract: An electronic camera includes an image sensor. The image sensor has an imaging surface irradiated with an optical image of an object scene through a focus lens and repeatedly generates an object scene image. A CPU executes an AF process for adjusting a distance from the focus lens to the imaging surface to a distance corresponding to a focal point, based on the object scene image generated by the image sensor. However, the CPU has a high-luminance excluding function for excluding from a target to be noticed of the AF process a partial image having a luminance exceeding “TH1” out of the object scene image generated by the image sensor. The CPU determines whether or not a partial image having a luminance exceeding “TH2” larger than “TH1” exists on the object scene image generated by the image sensor, and turns on the high-luminance excluding function when a determination result is affirmative and turns off the high-luminance excluding function when the determination result is negative.

  • Patent number: 8300930
Abstract: A process for performing white balancing of an image is performed by subdividing an image into a plurality of subframes, and then analyzing each subframe to determine if that subframe is predominantly monochromatic other than gray. If so, that subframe is excluded from the computation of the gain adjustments in the white balancing operation. As a result, the white balance process is performed using only the multicolored and/or gray subframes, thus allowing the overall white-balance of the image to be shifted only when a change in the color average is due to a change in the spectra of illumination, and not a presence of large monochromatic areas in the image.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus determines, when white balance correction is executed on an image signal of a face area detected by face detection unit, based on a first white balance correction value obtained by detecting white pixels, whether the corrected image signal of the face area is present in a second color signal area around a first color signal area indicating a flesh color.
