Abstract: According to an aspect of the present invention, once the mode setting device sets the person photographing mode, and the face zooming instruction device instructs zooming to the face of the person, the detection device detects the size of the face of the person captured by the image pickup device. The zooming device is then controlled so as to capture the face of the person in a certain size based on the detection result. Subsequently, the photographer instructs zooming in the telephoto direction or the wide direction using the zooming instruction device as necessary to thereby allow fine adjustment of the composition. This enables to easily and quickly photograph an image in a user's desired composition.

Abstract: When a first DMA unit and a second DMA unit transfer image data in a memory to be divided into units composed of a plurality of lines, a transfer number of lines for an enlargement section is controlled for each unit on the basis of a magnification of an image which has been set. Even if any magnification is set, the number of output lines of a second reduction section can always be made coincident with a number of lines specified in a JPEG encoder. In addition, there is no need for providing an additional circuit configuration such as a buffer memory in the second reduction section in order to match number of lines each other.

Abstract: In a digital still camera, pixel values representing an image frame in a first format are stored in a memory. The pixel values of the image frame in the first format are converted to a second format. The pixel values in the second format are stored in the memory by overwriting at least a portion of the pixel values in the first format. Memory space is thus conserved by the overwriting, thereby requiring reduced memory for storage of pixel values in the digital still camera. The minimum delay (shot to shot interval) required between user-indicated image capture instances is also reduced.

  • Patent number: 7710468
Abstract: An LCD driver starts reading a digital image signal of one frame from a VRAM in response to a reproduction timing signal. A driving timing signal generator generates a driving timing signal in response to a synchronizing signal, whose phase is shifted by a delay time from the reproduction timing signal. So a phase difference corresponding to the delay time is provided between the driving timing signal and the reproduction timing signal. Synchronously with the driving timing signal, an image sensor is driven to shoot a subject and output an analog image signal of one frame. After being converted into a digital form, the image signal is written in the VRAM sequentially from the first line of one frame. The phase difference is determined so that the LCD driver starts reading the image signal sequentially from the first line, immediately after the first line is written in the VRAM.

  • Patent number: 7710469
Abstract: An image acquisition apparatus includes an optical system having such distortion aberration characteristics as a central region is expanded and a peripheral region is compressed. An imaging element converts a subject image formed image data. A first memory stores filter factors which are used for interrupting a spatial frequency exceeding a Nyquist frequency of the image data. A second memory stores parameters which define an outer edge of a Nyquist image region. A filter factor setting circuit judges whether each pixel position of the image data is included in the Nyquist image region based on the parameter, and reads the filter factors from the first memory when each pixel position is included. A filter circuit executes filter processing with respect to the image data in accordance with the read filter factors. A distortion correcting circuit corrects the distortion aberration characteristics with respect to the image data.

  • Patent number: 7671907
Abstract: A digital camera enables high-speed zooming operation without use of a zoom lens. Light originating from a fixed-focal-length lens is split into two beams by a beam splitter, to thus form respective images on a first image sensor and a second image sensor. The first image sensor and the second image sensor are equal to each other in terms of the number of pixels, but differ from each other in terms of a pixel size. The first image sensor acquires a wide image, and the second image sensor acquires a telephotography image. An output is produced by means of switching between the first image sensor and the second image sensor, in response to zooming operation. When the image from the first image sensor is recorded, focus detection is performed by use of an image signal from the second image sensor, to thus effect automatic focusing.

Abstract: An imaging section inputs rays of light from a subject through a lens and forms an image of the subject. A display screen of a display section displays an image of a subject focused by the lens. A focus area selecting section selects one of a plurality of focus areas displayed on the display screen. A focus adjusting section adjusts a focus on the subject in the selected focus area. A crop section automatically selects a crop area corresponding to the selected focus area and captures as a crop image an image in the selected crop area. The photographer can easily obtain a crop image by photographing a subject according to a conventional procedure.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an imaging method and apparatus that provide facility to verify focus condition of images obtained without missing the chance of snapping a shot. A series of image data sets are obtained by an imaging device through a consecutive imaging method or the like, and stored in a storage device. The plurality of image data sets is displayed sequentially on an LCD monitor, and a region of a predetermined range extracted. The image data set corresponding to the extracted region of the predetermined range is enlarged in an enlarging device to obtain an enlarged image data set. A display controller sequentially displays the enlarged image data sets on the LCD monitor. In this fashion, the defocused levels of the images, that is, whether or not the images are in focus, can be verified in an unhurried manner after the image data sets are obtained.

Abstract: A digital camera includes a memory, and pixel data cut out from the memory is subjected to ½ horizontal thinning processing by a ½ horizontal thinning circuit when a zooming magnification is equal to or larger than “2”, and the thinned pixel data is written to an image buffer. A zooming circuit performs zooming processing on the thinned pixel data stored in the image buffer. Here, when the zooming magnification is smaller than “2”, the zooming circuit performs the zooming processing on original pixel data being read from the memory and then stored in the image buffer.

  • Patent number: 7468749
Abstract: According to the image taking apparatus and the method of controlling an edge enhancing level of an original image signal, as the electronic zooming rate for the original image signal increases, an amplitude level of the edge signal decreases in a direction contrary to the increase of the electronic zooming rate, and thereby, an edge enhancing level of the edge-enhanced image signal is automatically suppressed. Accordingly, even though zooming processing is applied to the edge-enhanced image signal, it is able to obtain an enlarged image signal having natural edges by suppressing excess enlargement of the edge signal added to the original image signal.

Abstract: In an electronically zoomable digital camera having a hand shake correction mechanism, when electronic zoom operates, pixel shift is carried out in such manner of capturing a reference image and then capturing a shifted image after moving an image capturing element from the reference image by a prescribed amount of shift by means of the hand shake correction mechanism and thereafter interpolating pixels of the shifted image between pixels of the reference image. The amount of shift is changed according to a magnification of the electronic zoom. The hand shake correction mechanism has a continuous mode in which the movement is effected by a continuous amount and a fixed amount mode in which movement is effected by only a fixed amount and is driven in the fixed amount mode when the pixel shift is carried out.
