Abstract: A star camera system that includes an optical system configured to focus radiation from a star to be imaged onto a collector that is in the form of an electron bombarded active pixel sensor (EBAPS) configured to provide high gain. The EBAPS comprising a photocathode disposed in a vacuum is configured to release electrons into the vacuum when exposed to radiation focused thereon by the optical system. The EBAPS includes an active pixel sensor anode disposed distant from the photocathode in the vacuum. An electric field is generated by a voltage source to direct the electrons from the photocathode to the active pixel sensor anode. Furthermore, the collector is mounted on a translation device configured to move the collector relative to the optical system by a predetermined amount of less than pixel size in the focal plane of the optical system to increase image resolution of a plurality of images.

Abstract: A method for encoding pictures within a groups of pictures using prediction, where a first reference picture from a group of pictures and a second reference pictures from the subsequent group of pictures are used in predicting pictures in the group of pictures associated with the first reference picture. A plurality of anchor pictures in the group of pictures associated with the first reference picture may be predicted using both the first and second reference pictures to ensure a smooth transition between different groups of pictures within a video frame.
Abstract: Open and close of a cover of a recording media holding section is locked and unlocked in accordance with turn-on and turn-off of a power switch. Turn-on and turn-off of the power switch is performed in accordance with an operation of for example a movable grip. When the power switch is turned on, a cover of the recording media is held by the movable grip so as not to be opened.
Abstract: A communication terminal receives character-based information from a host machine via a communication line. The terminal includes a menu identifying section for identifying menu information from a menu picture received from the host machine, and a menu information storing section for extracting individual information from the menu information identified by the menu identifying section. The individual items on the menu are selectable using input admissible commands, respectively, and the menu information storing section temporarily stores the individual items and the corresponding input admissible commands. The terminal further includes a display output control section for outputting at least the individual information in a manner to match a display fashion of a display unit, and a selecting section for selecting one of the individual information displayed on the display unit by the display output control section.
Abstract: An optical beam (2) passes through a polarizer (10), a target (24), an analyzer (20) and onto a camera (22) where a plurality of images are formed. The images are digitized by a frame grabber (30) and processed by a general purpose computer (32) to form electric field images of the target.
