Abstract: According to the present invention, when a lens is moved in an operation of an operation device, the focal information calculated for each travel position of the lens can be graphed corresponding to the lens position, and the focal information about the current lens position can be identified from the focal information about another position. Thus, a manual focus adjustment can be made while checking the graph. Especially, since the history of the focal information calculated for each lens travel position can be graphed, the lens can travel to the lens position in which a desired peak can be obtained when there are a plurality of peaks of focal information on the graph.

  • Patent number: 7929044
Abstract: An autofocus searching method includes the following procedures. First, focus values of images, which are acquired during the movement of the object lens, are calculated, in which the focus value includes at least the intensity value of the image derived from the intensities of the pixels of the image. Next, focus searching is based on a first focus-searching step constant and a first focus-searching direction, in which the first focus-searching step constant is a function, e.g., the multiplication, of the focus value and a focus-searching step size. If the focus searching position moves across a peak of the focus values, it is then amended to be based on a second focus-searching direction and a second focus-searching step constant, in which the second focus-searching step constant is smaller than the first focus-searching step constant, and the second focus-searching direction is opposite to the first focus-searching direction.

  • Patent number: 7747159
Abstract: A focusing device capable of setting (S402) a focusing area according to a detection result of a target subject, wherein even if the target subject is no longer detected, when the target subject is assumed to be present, the velocity of the movement of the focusing lens (104) is made slower. Thus, even if the target subject can no longer be detected, it is possible to suppress the in-focus position from changing significantly.

Abstract: An interchangeable lens type digital camera includes a camera main body and an interchangeable lens. The camera main body includes a control section which communicates with an interchangeable lens, and controls focus adjustment of the interchangeable lens by a hill-climbing AF system. A judgment section judges a characteristic of the interchangeable lens on the basis of communication between the interchangeable lens and the control section. The interchangeable lens includes a focus lens for performing focus adjustment. A focus lens drive section drives the focus lens. A lens control section communicates with the control section, and controls the focus lens drive section to perform focus adjustment. The control section changes a previously determined drive enabled range of the focus lens on the basis of a judgment result of the judgment section to perform focus adjustment of the interchangeable lens.

  • Patent number: 7738028
Abstract: A camera with a photographing optical system, including a focus adjusting system which captures images at different focal positions via an image pickup device while moving a focusing lens group within a controllable searching range, and moves the focusing lens group to the in-focus position; a memory which stores a first image captured when an in-focus state is achieved; and a comparing device which compares the first image stored in the memory with a second image captured via the image pickup device before commencement of movement of the focusing lens group. The focus adjusting system operates within a limited searching range including a current position of the focusing lens group when predetermined conditions are satisfied, including a condition upon which it is determined that the first image and the second image match each other completely or by a predetermined degree.

  • Patent number: 7729604
Abstract: An exemplary automatic focusing system adopted in a camera includes a brightness detecting unit, a recording unit, a correcting unit, and a selecting unit. The brightness detecting unit is configured for detecting a general brightness value of an environment of a subject prior to a focusing operation of the camera and outputting a correction factor associated with the general brightness value. The recording unit is configured for storing a first set of brightness values and the first set of contrast values. The correcting unit stores a preset brightness value and a preset contrast value. The correcting unit is configured for calculating a number of second contrast values according to the correction factor, the first set of brightness values, a preset brightness value, and a preset contrast value. The selecting unit is configured for choosing a maximum contrast value from the number of second contrast values of the subject.

  • Patent number: 7725018
Abstract: A range in which a focus lens is to be moved is set; the focus lens is moved within the set range; an in-focus state is determined based on output signals from an image sensing unit which are obtained in association with the movement of the focus lens within the range; and the focus lens is driven so that an object image is brought into focus. When a difference between the positions of the focus lens, at which the plurality of images are brought into focus, is equal to or lower than a preset threshold, the range will be set to be wider than a range in the case where the difference exceeds the threshold.
