Abstract: Quantities of motion regarding an imaging device such as an electronic camera are calculated and used to adjust the exposure time and one or more other exposure parameters used to capture an image to improve the quality of the image. Motion blur caused by movement of the camera or by movement of an object within the scene being photographed is reduced by selecting appropriate exposure parameters. Further, when there is little or no motion detected, the exposure parameters may be selected to improve the depth of field and reduce the noise in the captured image.

Abstract: Provided is an image pickup device that enables distortion compensation with high precision. Exposure and reading are conducted on pixel rows that are discontinuous with respect to a vertical direction of an image pickup element, and multiple low resolution images are obtained. Each of these multiple low resolution images has a lower distortion than an ordinary image obtained by conducting an ordinary continuous exposure and reading. Therefore, output images with reduced distortion can be generated by using the low resolution images.

Abstract: The invention is provided to perform exposure control that uses a diagram for monitor-through in a shooting waiting state in which the output frame rate of an image sensor is set into 30 fps and that for high-speed movie recording is performed during move images shooting with the high-speed movie mode in which the output frame rate is set into 300 fps. Upon shifting to exposure control at the high-speed movie mode, the aperture value to be first set is determined uniquely from the current LV value by using a program diagram for preparing to start high-speed movie recording in which the space scale of the program diagram for monitor-through is converted into a space scale similar to that of the diagram for high-speed movie recording. Then, the exposure adjustment that sets the determined aperture value, and the shutter speed and the gain corresponding to thereof as exposure control values.

Abstract: Some embodiments comprise at least one array that includes microelectromechanical systems (“MEMS”)-based light-modulating devices. Elements of the array(s) may be configured to absorb and/or reflect light when in a first configuration and to transmit light when in a second position. Such an array may be controlled to function as a camera aperture and/or as a camera shutter. For example, a controller may cause the array to function as a shutter by causing the MEMS devices to open for a predetermined period of time. The predetermined period of time may be based, at least in part, on input received from a user, the intensity of ambient light, the intensity of a flash, the size of the camera aperture, etc. Some embodiments provide a variable aperture device that does not add significant thickness or cost to a camera module. Such embodiments may enable a camera to function well in both bright and dark light, to control depth of field, etc.

  • Patent number: 8103158
Abstract: In continuous shooting processing, the defocus amounts of respective focus detection areas and the reliabilities of the defocus amounts are detected from information of the focus detection areas. Weightings are determined based on the reliabilities and defocus amounts. If the detection of defocus amounts is not completed in one shooting operation during continuous shooting, weightings are determined using defocus amounts detected in a shooting operation preceding the current one during continuous shooting. If there is no defocus amount that has been detected in a shooting operation preceding the current one, weightings are determined to weight a photometry area at a predetermined position of the field. A correct exposure for shooting is determined by calculating the weighted average of photometric values obtained in a plurality of photometry areas using the determined weightings. Continuous shooting can be performed with a correct exposure without decreasing the continuous shooting speed.

Abstract: In one form, an imaging system comprises an imager that forms an image of an object in a field of view, a rotationally symmetric lens assembly disposed between the imager and the object, and an equalizer. The rotationally symmetric lens assembly provides increased collection efficiency for a given depth of field, whereby the rotationally symmetric lens assembly causes aberration, compared to a well-focused lens. The rotationally symmetric lens assembly comprises a front negative lens, a rear positive lens, and an aperture positioned between the front and rear lenses. The equalizer, which is connected to the imager, receives image data and at least partially compensates for the aberration caused by the rotationally symmetric lens assembly.
