Exposure Control Patents (Class 348/362)
  • Patent number: 8970719
Abstract: Based on pixel value conversion coefficients, a pixel value converter converts pixel values of image signals obtained by imaging a same subject a plurality of times while mutually differentiating an exposure value. A synthesizing/weighting coefficient creation unit creates a synthesizing/weighting coefficient. A difference creation unit creates short-time exposure image data and long-time exposure image data. A weighting/synthesizing unit synthesizes the short-time exposure image data and the long-time exposure image data by using the synthesizing/weighting coefficient. A controller evaluates the difference, and updates the pixel value conversion coefficient so that the difference becomes smaller.

Abstract: The invention discloses a CMOS image sensor, a timing control method and an exposure method thereof. The image sensor includes a pixel array composed of multiple pixel rows and a control chip controlling the array. The control chip controls each pixel row to expose in the exposure time during one exposure period of the pixel row, and then wait predetermined time after the exposure time to output data. In the invention, the exposure time of the image sensor is separated from the time of outputting data. Therefore, the working mode of the image sensor can be controlled more flexibly. By the manner of controlling the pixel rows in the sub-array of the image sensor to expose synchronously, the flash time of the light source is the same as the exposure time of each single sub-array, thereby improving the utilization efficiency of the source energy and ensuring real-time image sampling.

  • Patent number: 8957984
Abstract: A method for detecting ghost artifact in multiple images during high dynamic range (HDR image creation. For each pair of images, multiple individual consistency maps are generated by calculating a consistency function using moving windows of different sizes. The individual consistency maps are combined into a combined consistency map and then binarized. When combining the multiple individual consistency maps, they are first binarized using predetermined threshold values that are window-size-specific. The threshold values are developed beforehand using training images and machine leaning. The final binarized consistency map indicates whether the pair of images are consistent with each other at each pixel location. Then, a ghost-weight map is generated for each image based on the multiple final consistency maps. The ghost-weight map indicates the likelihood of each image pixel being ghost-inducing. The HDR image is generated using the set of images and the corresponding ghost-weight maps.

Abstract: A method for selecting an optimum subset of images from a larger set of images for optimal HDR image creation. For each of the set of images, an exposure quality map is computed by assigning, to each pixel of the image, an exposure quality value based on the pixel brightness value of that pixel. A suitable exposure quality function, typically reflecting the properties of the imaging device, is used for this purpose. Then, for each possible subset of images, the exposure quality maps for the images in the subset are combined using a max operation to generate a combined exposure quality map for the subset. An average pixel value of the combined exposure quality map of the subset is then calculated and serves as a quality score. The subset of images processing the highest quality score are used to generate the HDR image.

Abstract: An imaging module for electro-optically imaging a target, includes an energizable illuminating light source for illuminating the target with illumination light for return from the target, an energizable solid-state imager for capturing return light from the target, and a controller for energizing the imager during an exposure time period to capture the return light at a frame rate, for deenergizing the imager during a non-exposed time period, and for energizing the illuminating light source not only during the exposure time period, but also during the non-exposed time period, to produce a plurality of illumination light pulses at an illumination rate that enables the human eye to perceive the illumination light pulses as substantially continuous. The illumination rate of one or more of the illumination light pulses produced during the non-exposed time period is substantially independent and decoupled from the frame rate.

Abstract: A camera apparatus includes a photogrammetric range sensor, small aperture lens and a processor configured to carry out a method for simulating a large aperture lens. The method includes capturing a photographic image data of a scene using the camera with the lens set to a small aperture size. Simultaneously or near-simultaneously with capturing the image, the camera captures photogrammetric range data pertaining to depth of objects in a field of view of the camera, using the range sensor. The processor then processes the photographic image data using the photogrammetric range data to obtain second photographic data simulating an image captured using a lens set to an aperture size larger than the small aperture size.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method of operating a device to capture an image of a high dynamic range (HDR) scene. Upon the device entering an HDR mode, the method captures and stores multiple images at a first image exposure level. Upon receiving a command to capture the HDR scene, the method captures a first image at a second image exposure level. The method selects a second image from the captured plurality of images. The method composites the first and second images to produce a composite image that captures the HDR scene. In some embodiments, the method captures multiple images at multiple different exposure levels.

  • Patent number: 8885092
Abstract: A camera device (1) includes an imaging unit (2) which outputs a long exposure signal and a short exposure signal in one field period. A face detection unit (8) detects a face area from an image captured by the imaging unit (2). The weighting processing unit (12) applies a weighting process to luminance data of the long exposure signal in the detected face area using a weighting constant for reducing the luminance level of the long exposure signal. If the luminance level of the weighting-processed long exposure signal rises to a predetermined saturation level or higher, an exposure control unit (15) performs exposure control using the long exposure signal and the short exposure signal. This can suppress occurrence of a noise due to a short exposure signal (flickering) in the face area, thereby improving visibility in the face area.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method for reconstruction of a three-dimensional image of an object. A first image is acquired of the object lit by a luminous flux having, in a region including the object, a luminous intensity dependant on the distance, with a light source emitting the luminous flux. A second image is acquired of the object lit by a luminous flux having, in a region including the object, a constant luminous intensity. For each pixel of a three-dimensional image, a relative distance of a point of the object is determined as a function of the intensity of a pixel corresponding to the point of the object in each of the acquired images.
