The system may receive input indicating a lowest priority edge or corner of the image or object to be resized (e.g., using a drag operation). Respective energy values for some pixels of the image and/or of the object to be resized may be weighted based on their distance from the lowest priority edge/corner and/or on a cropping or expansion graph, and relative costs may be determined for seams of the image dependent on the energy values. Low cost seams may be removed or replicated in different portions of the image and/or the object to modify the image. The selected object may be resized using interpolated scaling and patched over the modified image.

The electronic device, when a user selects a portion of the video at a first resolution, identifies display coordinates associated with the video played at the first resolution. Once the display coordinates are scaled in accordance to the second resolution of the video, the electronic device identifies at least one tile associated with the selected portion in the second resolution. After identifying the tile associated with the selected portion, the electronic device receives a video stream of the selected portion of the video and renders the selected portion on the electronic device.

A method for processing images of a video sequence comprises steps of determining parameters of the video sequence, parameters of a previously decoded subsequence of the video sequence and user settings, determining a portion to be cropped according to the determined parameters, and cropping in a reframing step the determined portion for being displayed. An advantage of the invention is that an advanced automatic solution is provided for tuning automatically the reframing parameters, based on the content of a video.
