Abstract: An image processing apparatus comprises a normalisation module operatively connected across a bus to a memory storing an image in which a region of interest (ROI) has been identified within the image. The ROI is bound by a rectangle having a non-orthogonal orientation within the image. In one embodiment, the normalisation module is arranged to divide the ROI into one or more slices, each slice comprising a plurality of adjacent rectangular tiles. For each slice, the apparatus successively reads ROI information for each tile from the memory including: reading a portion of the image extending across at least a width of the slice line-by-line along an extent of a slice. For each tile, the apparatus downsamples the ROI information to a buffer to within a scale SD<2 of a required scale for a normalised version of the ROI.

Embodiments of the invention provide a fast and robust global motion estimation algorithm based on two-stage coarse-to-fine refinement strategy, which is capable of measuring large motions. An embodiment of the invention may be applied as a modification of any standard, e.g. MPEG-4 that uses the affine model of motion estimation. Embodiments of the invention may be used in the six parameter affine motion model, and other embodiments of the invention are applicable to the two parameter translation model, the four parameter RST model, and the eight parameter projective model. In a preferred embodiment, a coarse estimation is developed in a translation invariant domain, and then is refined in the spatial domain.

  • Patent number: 7307635
Abstract: A frame buffer stores X pixels per line and Y lines and is read using a burst of B pixels. The un-rotated image is rotated by 90 degrees for display by writing and reading pixels from a line buffer. The line buffer stores a block of B*Y pixels. The frame buffer is logically divided into X/B blocks that are B pixels wide. Blocks are read from the frame buffer from the bottom line to the top with a burst of B pixels per line. An offset locate pixels to read in the line buffer. The offset is B for the first block, and increases by a factor of B for each block read, but wraps around modulo B*Y?1. Pixels for a next block are written into the line buffer to locations vacated as pixels are read out. The increasing offset re-orders the pixels for the rotated display order.

Abstract: Circuit arrangements and methods for real-time image resizing and image rotation. Line buffers are used for storage of lines of pixel values for both resizing and rotation. A first one of the line buffers receives input pixel values, and the line buffers are coupled in a chain such that line buffer i receives pixel values from line buffer i−1. The lines of pixel values are moved from line buffer i to line buffer i+1 as the pixel values are processed for resizing or rotation.

  • Patent number: 6674484
Abstract: The two dimensional sample rate conversion capabilities of a video display system are used to produce three-dimensional effects. Linear and non-linear scaling is applied to a video image to convey a sense of depth. The three dimensional effects are used to increase the visual appeal of existing and new feature sets in display systems. A multi-faceted object representation, such as a representation of a cube or a pyramid, can be used to display different video images on each facet of the representation. By appropriately scaling each image on each facet, an impression of depth is achieved. The images on the different facets can be selected to represent different aspects of a common theme, such as datacast information related to a primary source of information. Channel changing on a television can be presented as a rotation of the multifaceted object.
