Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus for processing an input image including M input pixels. Each of the M input pixels respectively has an input gray scale. The apparatus includes a gain generating module, a contrast enhancing module, and a Gamma adjusting module. The gain generating module generates a contrast gain and a minimum input gray scale in accordance with the input gray scales of the M input pixels. The contrast enhancing module adjusts the input gray scales in accordance with the contrast gain and the minimum input gray scale, to generate an intermediate image. The intermediate image includes M intermediate pixels, and each of the M intermediate pixels respectively has an intermediate gray scale. The Gamma adjusting module adjusts the intermediate gray scales lower than a first threshold in accordance with the contrast gain and outputs the adjusted intermediate image as an output image.

Abstract: Extracting and processing video content encoded in a rendered color space to be emulated by an ambient light source, using perceptual rules for intelligent dominant color selection. Steps include quantizing the video color space; performing dominant color extraction by using a mode, median, mean, or weighted average of pixel chromaticities; applying perceptual rules to further derive dominant chromaticities via [1] chromaticity transforms; [2] a weighted average using a pixel weighting function influenced by scene content; and [3] extended dominant color extraction where pixel weighting is reduced for majority pixels; and [4] transforming the dominant color chosen to the ambient light color space using tristimulus matrices. A color of interest can be further analyzed to produce a true dominant color, and past video frames can guide selection of dominant colors in future frames.

  • Patent number: 7889235
Abstract: A PC 40 outputs a picture signal for a white color to a TV 100, and generates chromaticity information by measuring luminance values of respective RGB color components from a picture displayed on the TV 100, thereby determining whether the chromaticity information undergoes a change by varying an output of any of the RGB color components by a predetermined amount. Subsequently, when the chromaticity information has not undergone a change, the contrast of the TV 100 is lowered by a predetermined amount, and re-acquisition re-determination of chromaticity information is executed. On the other hand, when the chromaticity information has undergone a change, determination is made on whether the chromaticity information substantially matches chromaticity information representing white, and in the affirmative case, a white balance adjustment value is stored in an EEPROM 112 while in the negative case, the re-acquisition/re-determination of chromaticity information is repeated.

Abstract: Flicker free operation of ambient light sources that emulate video content during low luminance conditions, where the ambient light source is output thresholded so that an on/off change of state of the ambient light source can be initiated after an intensity variable passes one or two thresholds. Output thresholding is used when extracting and processing video content encoded in a rendered color space, which can be decoded into frames tapped by an interframe interpolation process using only color information from selected frames, such as extracting average or other color information from an selected screen regions. Negative gamma correction helps prevent garish or inappropriate chromaticities and lumina.
