Abstract: The invention provides techniques for separating luma and chroma signal components in a composite SECAM video signal. During reception, the SECAM video signal is split into luma and chroma output. The amplitude of the chroma carrier is monitored during reception. If the chroma carrier amplitude is greater than a threshold, the value of the chroma output can be reduced. Also, if the chroma carrier amplitude is greater than another threshold, a portion of the chroma carrier can be added to the luma; or the trap band of the band-trap filter for extracting luma from the composite video can be reduced. The respective amount of the reduction in the chroma output and the increase in the luma output are independently determined but both may proportional to the magnitude of the deviation in the chroma carrier amplitude from the different thresholds.

  • Patent number: 8026980
Abstract: A system and method for improving decisions for 2D combing of a video. A 2D-comb is applied to a baseband video signal, thus producing a chroma component of the signal, and an associated combing error. A narrowband filter is applied to the chroma component to produce a filtered chroma component. The chroma component and the filtered chroma component are blended in proportions based on the amount of combing error to produce a new chroma component. A larger combing error induces selection or blending a larger portion of the filtered chroma component, which as a result of narrowband filtering contains less cross-chroma error. Subtracting the new chroma component from the baseband video signal produces a new luma component. The chroma component can also be filtered using a wider band filter to produce a non-complementary chroma component to be subtracted from the baseband video signal to produce the new luma component.

Abstract: The invention relates to a 2D YC separation device and YC separation system for separating a composite signal into a luma signal (Y) and a chroma signal (C). Firstly, the 2D YC separation device utilizes a low-pass filter to separate the composite signal into a low-frequency composite signal and a high-frequency composite signal. The low-frequency composite signal is a low-frequency luma signal. A 2D comb filter is utilized to separate the high-frequency composite signal into a high-frequency luma signal and the chroma signal. The luma signal is equal to the low-frequency luma signal plus the high-frequency luma signal. Therefore, the 2D YC separation device of the present invention can perfectly separate the composite signal so as to obtain a better luma signal and chroma signal. The YC separation system of the present invention further comprises a 3D YC separation device and a motion detection device, so as to obtain a precise luma signal and chroma signal.

Abstract: Separation of luma and chroma in a video. In an embodiment, values on a current line of the sampled video signal, at ¼-period intervals, are compared with values on a previous line of the sampled video signal, at ¼-period intervals. Values on the current line of the sampled video signal are compared to values on a subsequent line of the sampled video signal. This gives information about the vertical frequency content. Values on the current line are compared with values having the same chroma phase on the same line to provide information about horizontal frequency content. The data of vertical and horizontal frequency logic are used by the decision logic to determine the appropriateness of combing based on these comparisons. If combing is not appropriate, the signal is bandpass filtered instead of combed. The low-pass and combing filters are applied to the original signal, not an interpolated or resampled signal.

Abstract: Methods and systems for time constant for a 3D comb filter of a video signal are provided. Aspects of the method may include assigning a weight to a 3D comb mesh value. Combing may be blended according to the assigned weight of the 3D comb mesh value. The weighted 3D comb mesh value may be accumulated in order to generate accumulated mesh value. If the accumulated mesh value exceeds a saturation value, the accumulated mesh value may be reduced to the saturation value. If the 3D comb mesh value is smaller than a first threshold value, the accumulated mesh value may be reset to zero. A multiplier may be generated according to the accumulated mesh value. If the accumulated mesh value is between a second threshold value and a third threshold value, the multiplier may be blended.

  • Patent number: 7310119
Abstract: An adaptive circuit and method for separating luminance and chrominance components from a composite video signal by deriving three input lines from the composite video signal, determining whether any luminance similarity exists among the three input lines, and then selectively enabling a component filter based on any luminance similarity. If no luminance similarity exists among all three of the input lines, then a subtractive comb filter is enabled to maintain high vertical luminance resolution. If luminance similarity exists among all three of the input lines, then an additive comb filter is enabled. The additive comb filter performs three-line averaging when a high degree of similarity exists among all three consecutive input lines to minimize cross-chroma artifacts on lines that are similar.
