Abstract: A contrast correction device for correcting a contrast of an image formed by video signals includes a brightness/darkness detecting circuit for detecting a tone level of the image and for producing a bright signal when the tone level is greater than a predetermined brightness, and a dark signal when the tone level is less than a predetermined darkness. A correction circuit is provided for correcting a luminance signal by a negative gamma correction in response to the bright signal, and a positive gamma correction in response to the dark signal. Thus, the contrast of bright areas in the image are enhanced when the bright signal is produced, and the contrast of bright areas in the image are suppressed when the dark signal is produced.

Abstract: An RGB preamplifier for a video display includes respective multipliers independently operable for adjusting the contrast of input primary and secondary video signals. The contrast adjusted video signals are added to form a combined display signal, the combined signal being applied to the first inputs of primary and secondary comparators each of which is also supplied with a respective reference DC level. The primary and secondary video signals are alternately nulled at horizontal line rate by nulling the corresponding multipliers. The primary comparator samples the combined signal when the secondary signal is nulled for clamping the DC level of the primary signal in relation to the primary reference DC level and the secondary comparator samples the combined signal when the primary signal is nulled for clamping the DC level of the secondary signal in relation to the secondary reference DC level.
Abstract: A device for determining a control signal for an image observation system including an image intensifier and an image converter wherein the control signal is representative of the contrast range of an output signal of the image converter and with control elements for adjusting the gain of the image intensifier and the gain of the image converter in a manner whereby the control signal at a value representative of a large contrast range in the output of signal of the converter results in higher adjustment gain of the image intensifier and a lower adjustment gain to the image converter and where the control signal at a value representative of a low contrast range in the output signal of the image converter results in lower adjustment gain to the image intensifier and higher adjustment gain to the image converter.

Abstract: A video input signal to be displayed is applied to an offset clamp circuit which effects a DC offset of blanking and active video portions of each video line. The DC offset or shift is of an amount and in a polarity sense to place the black level of the active portion of an NTSC color standard signal at a level corresponding to blanking level of the NTSC color standard. Advantageously, subsequent clamping at the shifted level enables contrast control without altering the black level of displayed images.
