Abstract: A display device and method with an optimal external input setting capability are provided. A method for setting an external input in a display device includes receiving information about an external device which is connected to the display device via a network; determining based on the information about the external device whether the external device has a capability of providing a component output signal; and if the external device has the capability of providing the component output, setting a set of component terminals as a set of external input terminals for receiving a signal from the external device. Thus, when the external device has the capability of providing a component output, the component terminal is set as an external input, thereby obtaining a high definition image. In addition, setting the component terminals as the external input is automatically performed, thus providing convenience to a user.

Abstract: A TV microcomputer sends a channel switching demand command to a wireless center microcomputer, via an SS transmission/reception unit and an SS transmission/reception unit. Via the SS transmission/reception unit and the SS transmission/reception unit, the wireless center microcomputer returns, to the TV microcomputer, a response indicating that the command demanding the channel selection has been received. Subsequently, the wireless center microcomputer performs a process demanded by the received channel switching demand, and sends, to the TV microcomputer, process completion information indicating that the process has been performed. Receiving the process completion information, a TV main body performs muting of the screen for a certain period starting from the reception of the information, so as to hide the visual disturbance on account of the delay at the time of the channel switching.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a communication system, a transmitter, a receiver, a communication method, a program, and a communication cable for providing high-speed bidirectional communication while maintaining compatibility. When an HDMI (R) source 71 performs bidirectional IP communication with an HDMI (R) sink 72 using a CEC line 84 and a signal line 141, a switching control unit 121 controls a switch 133 so that, when data is transmitted, the switch 133 selects a constituent signal forming a differential signal output from a converting unit 131 and, when data is transmitted, the switch 133 selects a constituent signal forming a differential signal output from a receiver 82. When bidirectional communication is performed using only the CEC line 84, the switching control unit 121 controls the switch 133 so that the CEC signal output from the HDMI (R) source 71 or the receiver 82 is selected. The present invention is applicable to, for example, HDMI (R).

Abstract: A switching module, system and method facilitate communications between one or more non-CEC enabled devices and a television of an audio/visual (A/V) system. The switching module is able to accommodate both Consumer Electronic Control (CEC) enabled and non-CEC enabled devices for communication with the television. In response to user control of a user interface of the switching module, when a non-CEC enabled device is coupled to the switching module, a high definition multimedia interface (HDMI) input port of the HDMI switching module is selected and a default HDMI device type and corresponding HDMI logic address is set for the non-CEC enabled device. This information is displayed for the user by the television.
