Receiver Type Patents (Class 348/706)
  • Patent number: 7561213
Abstract: For determining connection of a TV broadcast receiver for receiving terrestrial broadcasts to a smart antenna with multiple receiving directions having a current active receiving direction, the receiver sends, to the connected antenna, a control signal to change the current active receiving direction to a further active receiving direction, so as to determine that a smart antenna is connected to the receiver if intensity of a television broadcast signal received and measured in the further active receiving direction is significantly varied from that in the current receiving direction. If the intensity of the television broadcast signal in the further active receiving direction is not significantly varied, the receiver determines that a smart antenna is disconnected from the receiver, and displays a message indicating the disconnection to a user. Thus, this receiver can automatically determine the kind of connected antenna, and display information about the connected antenna to the user.

  • Patent number: 7505088
Abstract: A signal selector selects one of a ground wave digital signal and a digital cable television signal in accordance with program selection information and transmits the selected signal to a shared tuner circuit. The shared tuner circuit selects only a signal of a desired channel from a signal output from the signal selector and converts the selected signal to an IF signal. An 8VSB and QAM demodulation circuit receives the IF signal from the shared tuner circuit and demodulate the signal in an 8VSB or QAM system to generate a transport stream. Thus a tuner for ground wave digital broadcasting and that for digital CATV broadcasting can be implemented as a shared tuner circuit surrounded by a single casing.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that facilitate detection and processing of A/V device power status in A/V networks. Preferably, a power detection system includes a current sensor coupled to the power cord of an A/V device, a current-to-voltage converter coupled to the sensor, a voltage comparator coupled to the converter, a reference voltage output circuit coupled to the comparator, and a micro-controller coupled to the comparator and the reference voltage output circuit. In operation, the current being drawn by the A/V device through its power cord is detected and converted to an input voltage, which is then compared to a device specific threshold voltage. If the input voltage is not greater than the threshold voltage, a “Power On” command is sent to the A/V device and the detection, conversion and comparison process is repeated. If the input voltage is greater than the threshold voltage, desired commands and/or instructions are sent to the A/V device.

Abstract: A receiver which receives broadcast waves from a plurality of broadcasting systems is provided with signal amplifiers that amplify signals received from each of the broadcasting systems. The outputs of the signal amplifiers are superposed to produce a superposed signal. The superposed signal is then demodulated and reception information is reproduced. When the condition of the reception information has deteriorated, at least one of the signals from the signal amplifiers whose signal quality has deteriorated and the signals from the signal amplifiers whose noise level is high are excluded from the superposed signal.

Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus are provided for selectively isolating particular ICs on an I2C bus system. Selective isolation of particular ICs allows the particular isolated ICs to communicate with each other and/or with other components at a data transfer rate that is greater than the data transfer rate for the I2C bus system. A switch is operative in one mode to selectively isolate an auxiliary or separate I2C portion containing the ICs to be isolated and operative in another mode to allow the auxiliary I2C portion to be part of the main I2C bus sys portion tem. Proper pull-up resistors associated with the switch aid in allowing a faster data transfer rate by speed up of the low to high transition for operation of the isolated ICs.

  • Patent number: 6952237
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for transmission of audio signals over a dedicated video transmission line in which the analog audio signal is inserted into and becomes a part of the video signal. Samples of the audio signal are inserted into the active video line, either at the beginnings or endings, or both, of each active video line scan signal. A defined amount of the active video interval is reserved from the active video line, and is replaced with samples of the analog audio signal. An analog switch in the modulator of the invention toggles to pick up the samples of audio and place them at the designated location (either at the beginnings or at the ends) of each active video line scan signal. A corresponding switch in the demodulator of the invention toggles to retrieve the audio samples from the active video line scans for output to the user. Stereo and/or bi-directional audio signals can be transmitted by insertion into both the beginnings and the endings of the active video line scan signals.

Abstract: The present invention has multiple AV/S terminals, an RF modulator, a S/AV signal converter and multiple switches. The switches connect the AV/S terminals with the RF outputs to allow the AV/S signal from the special AV/S terminal input into the RF modulator to be converted to an RF-signal input to the ANT terminal of the TV. Besides, the present invention further has an ANT input with an electronic switch and a detecting unit having a driver, which decides whether the electronic switch turns on. If the detecting unit detects no AV-signal or S-signal input from the AV/S terminals, the detecting unit first cuts off the power to the RF modulator and then makes the electronic switch turn on. The RF-signal from the ANT input is output to the RF output.
