    Abstract: Successful communication required between external devices is achieved. A content data processing unit is connected to an external device through a first line. A communication unit is connected to the external device through a second line. The content data processing unit represents, for example, a content data transmitting unit that transmits content data to the external device, or a content data receiving unit that receives the content data from the external device. The communication unit transmits an inquiry signal to the external device through the second line in a state in which the first line is unavailable. For example, in a case where the interface unit is in a standby state, it is possible to inquire a required item to the external device while the state is maintained. Since it is possible to decrease power consumption of the external device as much as possible, it is possible to contribute to saving of energy of the external device.

    Abstract: Provided is an image transmission apparatus in digital TV broadcasting, including: a first converter which converts added data, which are to be inserted into an image, into a pixel block; a border extender which adds an extended border area to an image area to extend the image in video data and inserts the converted added data into the extended border area; a video encoder which encodes the video data into which the border extender inserts the added data; a video decoder which decodes the video data encoded by the video encoder; and a second converter which converts the added data which are inserted as a pixel block in the video data decoded by the video decoder into original data. Accordingly, in digital TV broadcasting such as HD TV an UDTV, the added data are inserted into a hidden area, so that it is possible to transmit various types of information including contents and copyright without a deterioration in image quality.

When bidirectional communication is performed using only the CEC line, the switching control unit controls the switch so that the CEC signal output from the HDMI (R) source or the receiver is selected. The present invention is applicable to, for example, HDMI (R).

    Abstract: HDMI is a digital audio and video communications protocol commonly used in consumer electronics. HDMI is particularly synonymous with high fidelity audio and video. Even though HDMI is a digital communications protocol, the audio quality can be impaired by analog signal impairments and distortions even if there are no digital decoding errors. In particular, the very process by which the audio is converted from Digital (HDMI) to human audible “Analog Audio” can be prone to errors. This occurs when the Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) clock, which is derived from the HDMI TMDS clock or HDMI source, is “distorted” due to its jitter, resulting in erroneous sampling or outputting of vital audio samples, thereby reducing the audio quality of the experience. The present invention reduces the jitter on the TMDS clock, and hence the audio DAC clock, resulting in lower audio distortion.
