Patent number: 6113240Abstract: A reflection type projector includes a light source, a reflection type light modulating element, a projection lens, a condenser lens, and first and second adjusting mechanisms. An illumination light emitted from the light source passes through the condenser lens and enters into the reflection type light modulating element. The reflected light from the element passes through the condenser lens and is projected on the screen to form an image through the projection lens. The first adjusting mechanism adjusts the position of the projection lens along a direction perpendicular to the optical axis of the projection lens to move the position of the projected image. The second adjusting mechanism adjusts the position of the condenser lens along a direction parallel to the adjusting direction of the projection lens so that the reflected light enters into the projection lens.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1999Date of Patent: September 5, 2000Assignee: Asahi Kogaku Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Takashi Iizuka

To accommodate various image viewing formats, a plurality of optical integrators is positioned between the light source and the light valve. Each of the plurality of optical integrators is movable laterally of the optical path and is positionable in the optical path. Light from the light source is transmitted to the light valve through the particular optical integrator positioned in the optical path. Each optical integrator is constructed to produce a unique display format for the light transmitted therethrough to the light valve, in order the accommodate different display formats such as standard and letter-box without wasting light.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1996Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Inventors: Jeffrey A. Patent number: 5805274Abstract: A photographic printer has a lamp which projects light through a cut-off filter, a filter unit, and a diffusion plate. The light travels further through a film negative, an objective lens, and to a polarizing beam splitter. The beam splitter provides the light to a spatial light modulator and to an exposing/enlarging lens. The spatial light modulator includes a light modulating layer of a homeotropically oriented nematic liquid crystal having a negative dielectric anisotropy. Layers of transparent electrodes in the spatial light modulator are provided with a predetermined voltage of a predetermined frequency. A write CRT, controlled by a controller and control unit, provides light to the spatial light modulator so that the light from the beam splitter can be modulated with an appropriate correction. The modulated light and the light from the beam splitter are made incident on a photographic color paper. The photographic printer has improved compensation for blur caused by dust on the optical path.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1996Date of Patent: September 8, 1998Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventor: Hirofumi Saita

Patent number: 5793446Abstract: In a projector having liquid crystal panels as light modulators, the liquid crystal panels are independently used for white-light modulation and colored-light modulation, respectively, so that high luminance and high resolution are compatibly attained. The projector has a liquid crystal panel which is driven by color signals, and which subjects light to colored-light modulation, and another liquid crystal panel which is driven by a luminance signal wherein a portion lower than a predetermined level is compressed by a compressing circuit, and which subjects light to white-light modulation. Modulated light outputted from the two liquid crystal panels are synthesized with each other in a polarized beam splitter, and the image of the synthesized light is formed on a screen by a lens. It is preferable that the color signal and the white signal which will be inputted to the liquid crystal panels are obtained from a composite video signal of the NTSC system.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 1995Date of Patent: August 11, 1998Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Junichi Nose, Masanori Kojima, Kenji Kimura, Hideo Arahama, Hideki Kaneko, Kenji Maeno, Naoto Kontani

Patent number: 5703671Abstract: A method of correcting the light amount irregularities for a photographic printer in which an image displayed on a two-dimensional display unit is exposed by transmitting or reflecting the light from a light source through or from the two-dimensional display unit is disclosed. An LED light source is turned on with a predetermined driving voltage applied to all the pixels of a liquid crystal panel. The image on the liquid crystal panel is exposed for a predetermined length of time by the light transmitted through the liquid crystal panel and developed thereby to produce a photographic print. The density at a point corresponding to each pixel of the liquid crystal panel is measured. The light transmittance correction amount for each pixel of the liquid crystal panel is determined in such a manner that the density measured at each point conforms to a predetermined reference density (a minimum value of density measurement, for example).Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1996Date of Patent: December 30, 1997Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventors: Toshihiko Narita, Hiroaki Nakamura, Kazuhiko Katakura, Yoshihito Nakaya

Patent number: 5687020Abstract: A high definition image projector is provided for modulating light using an acousto-optic tunable filter according to image signals and projecting the modulated light on a screen. An image is obtained by modulating a light beam by pixel units according to the image to be displayed and directly projecting the modulated light beam on the screen in corresponding pixel units. High quality images can thus be displayed on a large screen. By adopting a high-output light source, a high luminance image can be obtained.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1996Date of Patent: November 11, 1997Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Sung-soo Park, Sang-hak Lee

Patent number: 5684504Abstract: Color display device for projection of the type comprising a light-switching device, for example a device illuminated by successive light strips of different colors (sequential color single panel projector) in which a display device with a matrix of pixels driven by active switching elements is advantageously used for the light-switching device (based on, for example ferro-electric liquid crystal material), the drive being chosen to be such that there is no memory action to a subsequent sub-frame. Due to the voltage-independent capacitance, notably of ferro-electric pixels, a simple drive mode can be used in which a simple correction for possible capacitive effects is sufficient. Notably in a two-pole drive mode, use can be made of the relatively longer time available for (optical) reset. A combination of the two types of drive mode is possible. Compensation of DC effects within a small part of the frame period is also possible without affecting the contrast.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1995Date of Patent: November 4, 1997Assignee: U.S. Philips CorporationInventors: Antonius G. Patent number: 5410370Abstract: A color projection video system utilizing only a single light valve. A white light source is separated into red, green and blue bands. Scanning optics in the form of three prisms coaxially mounted for rotation cause the RGB bands to be sequentially scanned across a light valve, such as a transmission LCD panel.
