Radiation Protection For User Patents (Class 348/819)
  • Patent number: 11226687
Abstract: Systems and methods for preventing sight deterioration caused by near work with devices with electronic screens arc provided. A system can include, in addition to an electronic screen, a distance detector directed towards a user. A system can also include processing circuitry coupled to a distance detector. Processing circuitry determines the distance between a user's head and a screen, relative to a calibration distance, and in case it is shorter than the calibration distance (putting the user at risk of future sight deterioration and progression of myopia), it can send a control signal to circuitry operative to notify the user. If processing circuitry determines that said distance is equal or longer than the calibration distance, the circuitry operative can slop the notification. A notification can be modulated by stud relative distance, making a user instinctively move a device away.

Abstract: A method of determining the distribution of radioactive material within a region is described. A plurality of radiological measurements and associated geometrical measurements taken at a plurality of positions in said region are input to a computer system. A 3D model of structures within said region is defined and the position within the model of each radiation measurement is obtained by using the geometrical measurements. The radiological measurements are then ascribed to a distribution of sources restricted to defined locations in the 3D model. The source distribution is parameterized over the defined source locations, and each parameter is related to the calculated observable radiation field, calculated using a physical model, at each measurement position. The parameters are adjusted to optimize the correspondence between the actual radiological measurements and the calculated observable radiation field, to yield the distribution of radioactive material as defined by the adjusted parameters.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for reducing radiation of a cathode-ray tube display are provided. According to the invention, the voltage signals of the two terminals of the horizontal deflection yoke are pulses of equal amplitude but opposite polarity. Thus, at positions which is equally apart from the two terminals of the horizontal deflection yoke, the electromagnetic radiation generated from the two terminals during operation of the cathode-ray tube can be substantially cancelled. Thus, the influence of the electromagnetic radiation from the horizontal deflection yoke on a user sits in front of the cathode-ray tube display is effectively reduced to a minimum. Further, it is only required to modify the way of winding in the flyback transformer and the cathode-ray tube remains unchanged. In this way, it requires almost no additional power dissipation for the reduction of the undesired electromagnetic radiation. Therefore, the electromagnetic radiation reduction is achieved and the cost is lowered.

  • Patent number: 6020939
Abstract: Electromagnetic interference ("EMI") is reduced in a CRT video display system by spreading-out the EMI-producing spectra present in the video pixel data and/or clock signals. A clock dropping circuit coupled between the display generator main oscillator and the timing generator periodically phase-modulates the timing generator clock signal such that it comprises N phases, where N.gtoreq.2. As a result, each horizontal line of video data and the horizontal synchronization signals is phase shifted. This dual-shifting effect eliminates display image distortion that would result if only the video signal were shifted. Video distortion is further minimized by deriving the horizontal and vertical synchronizing signals from a common constant clock. EMI energy associated with each clock harmonic is spread by a frequency amount .DELTA.f proportional to the rate of phase change in the clock signal, the rate of phase change exceeding half the bandwidth f.sub.m of a standard EMI measurement reference window.

Abstract: A video display appliance having a device for eliminating the radiation wave emitted from a cathode ray tube. The appliance includes a shielding wire wound one to several times along the periphery of a degaussing coil. The pulses having the same level and phase, but inverse polarity to those applied to an anode of the cathode ray tube, is applied to the shielding wire, thereby offsetting the radiation wave emitted from the cathode ray tube.

Abstract: A transparent conductive film is formed on an outer surface of a face portion of a face panel and a phosphor screen is formed on an inner surface thereof. A conductive explosion proof band is wound around an outer periphery of a skirt portion of the face panel and the explosion proof band has a grounding potential. A conductive tape is attached along a long side of the face panel and electrically connects the transparent conductive film with the explosion proof band. A compensating electrode extending along a side of the face panel is attached to an upper side of the skirt portion and disposed on a side opposite to the conductive tape with respect to the explosion proof band. An inverse voltage applying portion applies a voltage having a waveform of a polarity inverse to that of the deflection voltage applied to a deflection device to the compensating electrode so as to generate an electric field for canceling an alternating electric field generated from the deflection device.

  • Patent number: 5757338
Abstract: A graphics controller uses spread-spectrum techniques to modulate the pixel clock over a range of frequencies, reducing the maximum intensity of EMI emissions. When the clock input to the graphics controller is replaced with a modulated clock, the image on a CRT is distorted. Distortion is avoided by only modulating the clock to the flat-panel LCD interface. The vertical and horizontal timing signals for both the CRT and the LCD are generated from the un-modulated clock. Using the un-modulated clock for these critical timing signals ensures that each horizontal line is displayed for the same period of time. Brighter and dimmer lines are thus avoided. A second embodiment modulates the clocks to the CRT and LCD, reducing emissions for both interfaces. Even the timing signals use the modulated clock. The frequency sweep of the modulated clock is reset at the end of every horizontal line. Thus all lines are displayed for the same period, although the transfer of pixels within a line are modulated.
