Patent number: 10368080Abstract: Approaches to delivering video in a chroma sampling format with a higher chroma sampling rate (such as a YUV 4:4:4 format) using a video encoder and decoder that operate on video in another chroma sampling format with a lower chroma sampling rate (such as YUV 4:2:0) are described. A video decoder can recover stationary content in video at the higher chroma sampling rate, even when the video is encoded and decoded at the lower chroma sampling rate, without significantly increasing bit rate. In some example implementations, the approaches preserve chroma information from pictures in a higher-resolution chroma sampling format, while leveraging commercially available codecs adapted for a lower-resolution chroma sampling format such as YUV 4:2:0, which is widely supported in products.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2017Date of Patent: July 30, 2019Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Thomas W. Patent number: 10334018Abstract: In general, it is proposed to define a new expiry mechanism for a data file being received at the client. In the following it is proposed that the expiry time on the receiver side should be “shortly” after a possible reception of all packets. It is proposed that the receiver should know as precisely as possible that no additional packets for that data file are expected anymore. As soon as the receiver can safely regard the reception of the file, the receiver could either move on to the next segment (delay optimization) or try to make use of the received information.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2015Date of Patent: June 25, 2019Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Thorsten Lohmar, Ibtissam El Khayat

Publication number: 20130321700Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for sharpening image data are provided. One example of an image signal processing system includes a YCC processing pipeline that includes luma sharpening logic. The luma sharpening logic may sharpen the luma component while avoiding sharpening some noise. Specifically, a multi-scale unsharp mask filter may obtain unsharp signals by filtering an input luma component, and sharp component determination logic may determine sharp signals representing differences between the unsharp signals and the luma component. Sharp lookup tables may “core” the sharp signals, which may prevent some noise from being sharpened. Publication number: 20110050994Abstract: Image deterioration when image data containing scanning lines of the previous and next fields mixed together by video editing is displayed is prevented. An inter-field scanning line interpolating unit superimposes scanning line data of the previous and next fields of interlacing image data in a video stream input from a tuner or a memory card to perform inter-field scanning line interpolation, and generates progressive image data corresponding to that video stream. An IP-conversion selection signal indicating a determination result whether or not the reliability of the video stream meets a predetermined level is input into a back-end from a CPU. A selector refers to the IP-conversion selection signal, and when the CPU determines that the reliability of the video stream is lower than the predetermined level, image data having undergone interpolation by the inter-field scanning line interpolating unit is selected as an image to be displayed.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 1, 2010Publication date: March 3, 2011Applicant: NEC CASIO MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS, LTD.Inventor: KOZO MASUDA

Publication number: 20080259206Abstract: An adaptive de-interlacer can convert an interlaced video signal into a progressive video signal, and comprises an intra-field interpolator, an inter-field interpolator, a static pixel detector, a motion detector and a blending unit. The intra-field interpolator outputs an intra-field interpolated pixel based on a current field of the interlaced video signal, and the inter-field interpolator outputs an inter-field interpolated pixel based on successive fields of the interlaced video signal. The static pixel detector detects whether each interpolated pixel is a static pixel based on luminance differences between pixels of the successive fields with reference to a threshold and outputs a detection result. The motion detector generates a motion value for the interpolated pixel based on the successive fields and the detection result.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2007Publication date: October 23, 2008Applicant: HIMAX TECHNOLOGIES LIMITEDInventors: Yi Pin Lu, Chang Hsien Tai

Publication number: 20080246876Abstract: A method of de-interlacing interlaced video information including determining functional equations which estimate trajectories of corresponding pixel locations based on statistical information, updating each functional equation with sampled pixel values from the interlaced video information of corresponding pixel locations, and evaluating the functional equations at a time point of a progressive frame and providing corresponding progressive pixel values. A video de-interlace system including a trajectory estimator and a component estimator. The trajectory estimator provides functional equations estimating trajectories of tracked pixel locations based on statistical information. The component estimator receives the functional equations and the interlaced video information and provides progressive pixel values.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2007Publication date: October 9, 2008Applicant: FREESCALE SEMICONDUCTOR, INC.Inventors: David A. Publication number: 20080122974Abstract: An interlace motion artifact detector which identifies video image spatial frequencies characteristic of motion artifacts. The detected frequency is the maximum which can be represented by the vertical sampling rate of the video format (i.e., the Nyquist frequency). This frequency is detected by a pair of partial Discrete Fourier Transforms (DFT) which each calculate only the frequency component of interest. Additional vertical frequency components at one half and one quarter the interlace motion artifact frequency are also detected via a partial DFT. The presence of these lower frequencies acts as an indication of an erroneous motion artifact detection. Additionally, the dynamic range and maximum level of the video data is used as an indication of when to boost the frequency detection levels in areas of low brightness and/or contrast.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2007Publication date: May 29, 2008Inventor: Dale R.
