    Abstract: This speaker system includes: a speaker device that is disposed outside a region of a projection surface on which a display surface of a display is projected, the speaker device functioning as a real sound source; and a reflector that has a reflection surface reflecting a sound output from the speaker device, the reflector localizing a sound image of a virtual sound source within the region of the projection surface. The reflector has an elliptical reflection surface in at least a part of the reflection surface. With this configuration, the sound output from the speaker device disposed outside the region of the projection surface is reflected on the reflector, and a sound image thereof is localized within the region of the projection surface, whereby it is possible to bring a display position of a video into alignment with an output position of the sound. Thus, a comfortable viewing state can be ensured for a viewer.

    Abstract: In an audiovisual system, in which video is displayed on a screen that does not permit sound to pass through the screen, such as a light emitting diode panel, a high-frequency speaker positioned above an audience seating area can direct sound toward the screen, so that the screen can reflect the sound toward the audience seating area. The high-frequency speaker can be used with one or more low-frequency speakers positioned at or near the height of the audience seating area. The low-frequency and high-frequency sounds can appear to originate from close to the same height, thereby creating a realistic audio image at the audience seating area. A spectral filter can negate the spectral effects of propagation to and reflection from the screen. Suitable time delays can synchronize the high-frequency sound with the low-frequency sound and with video displayed on the screen.

The projection surface consists of open-cell foam that allows passage of behind-surface sound into the dome while allowing unwanted ambient noise within the dome to escape. A visually-reflective coating, in conjunction with the open cell structure, provides a textured surface that acts as a micro-baffle and suppresses cross-reflection of projected imagery.

Each upper frequency speaker unit includes a middle frequency driver mounted in a sealed rear enclosure which is attached to the throat of a middle frequency horn. A constant directivity high frequency horn with a high frequency driver attached to a rear end is mounted coaxially in the middle frequency horn. Sharp cutoff active crossover filters divide the input signal into low, middle, and high frequency band signals which are separately power amplified. The middle frequency horn is adapted to function as a direct radiator at a lower end of the middle band and as a sectoral horn above an unloading frequency of the middle frequency horn.

The magnetic induction loops may be buried, at ground level, or supported overhead and may be of other configurations.
