Patent number: 11877121Abstract: This speaker system includes: a speaker device that is disposed outside a region of a projection surface on which a display surface of a display is projected, the speaker device functioning as a real sound source; and a reflector that has a reflection surface reflecting a sound output from the speaker device, the reflector localizing a sound image of a virtual sound source within the region of the projection surface. The reflector has an elliptical reflection surface in at least a part of the reflection surface. With this configuration, the sound output from the speaker device disposed outside the region of the projection surface is reflected on the reflector, and a sound image thereof is localized within the region of the projection surface, whereby it is possible to bring a display position of a video into alignment with an output position of the sound. Thus, a comfortable viewing state can be ensured for a viewer.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2020Date of Patent: January 16, 2024Assignee: Sony Group CorporationInventors: Kazunobu Ookuri, Kohei Asada, Masaki Kamata, Hiroyuki Shirakawa

Patent number: 10634987Abstract: A convex multi-projector light-field display system includes projectors and a convex diffusion screen facing the projectors. The convex diffusion screen and the plurality of projectors share a same center of curvature, such that each projector projects the image at normal incidence to the convex diffusion screen. Projections of the projectors overlap in an optimal viewing area, within which an observer sees images projected by the projectors, and the optimal viewing area and the plurality of projectors are disposed on opposite sides of the convex diffusion screen.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2019Date of Patent: April 28, 2020Assignees: National Taiwan University, Himax Technologies LimitedInventors: Yi Teng Xiao, Hoang Yan Lin

Patent number: 10638218Abstract: In an audiovisual system, in which video is displayed on a screen that does not permit sound to pass through the screen, such as a light emitting diode panel, a high-frequency speaker positioned above an audience seating area can direct sound toward the screen, so that the screen can reflect the sound toward the audience seating area. The high-frequency speaker can be used with one or more low-frequency speakers positioned at or near the height of the audience seating area. The low-frequency and high-frequency sounds can appear to originate from close to the same height, thereby creating a realistic audio image at the audience seating area. A spectral filter can negate the spectral effects of propagation to and reflection from the screen. Suitable time delays can synchronize the high-frequency sound with the low-frequency sound and with video displayed on the screen.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2018Date of Patent: April 28, 2020Assignee: DTS, Inc.Inventor: Brian Slack

Patent number: 9465284Abstract: Screen vibration systems are provided that can vibrate theater screens using acoustical, electromagnetic, or another type of energy while reducing the presence of image artifacts that may otherwise be visible as result of vibrating the screen. In one example of a screen vibration system, the system includes a screen, a permanent magnet mounted to the screen, and a magnetic source positioned with respect to the permanent magnet and uncoupled from the screen. The screen is moveable in response to a changing magnetic field from the magnetic source.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2016Date of Patent: October 11, 2016Assignee: IMAX Theatres International LimitedInventors: Hamed Herati, Denis Gilles Tremblay, Oliver Nicholas Komarnycky

Patent number: 9465283Abstract: An immersive dome includes a number of novel features designed to enhance the performance of the immersive dome over presently-known immersive dome environments. Projectors are mounted in a multi-tier tower, out of sight beneath a viewing platform positioned to provide optimal wrap-around viewing. The projection surface consists of open-cell foam that allows passage of behind-surface sound into the dome while allowing unwanted ambient noise within the dome to escape. A visually-reflective coating, in conjunction with the open cell structure, provides a textured surface that acts as a micro-baffle and suppresses cross-reflection of projected imagery.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2010Date of Patent: October 11, 2016Assignee: APPLIED MINDS, LLCInventors: Bran Ferren, Clinton B. Publication number: 20020089645Abstract: Apparatus for dubbing a film from a source language to a target language includes a replay device (1) which replays a film and a control unit (6) which generates an acoustic model of the scene. A dubbing soundtrack on the replay device (1) is fed via a line (2) to an acoustic processor (3). The acoustic processor (3) processes the dubbed soundtrack under the control of the control unit (6) to produce a dubbed soundtrack which is modified to take into account the acoustic environment of the scene. This soundtrack may be recorded on a recording device (5).Type: ApplicationFiled: December 13, 2001Publication date: July 11, 2002Inventor: Andrew James Mason

Patent number: 5125732Abstract: A cinema sound system for upperforated screens includes for each sterophonic channel a floor positioned direct radiator bass speaker unit radiating into quarter space and an upper frequency speaker unit mounted above the screen. Each upper frequency speaker unit includes a middle frequency driver mounted in a sealed rear enclosure which is attached to the throat of a middle frequency horn. A constant directivity high frequency horn with a high frequency driver attached to a rear end is mounted coaxially in the middle frequency horn. Sharp cutoff active crossover filters divide the input signal into low, middle, and high frequency band signals which are separately power amplified. The middle frequency horn is adapted to function as a direct radiator at a lower end of the middle band and as a sectoral horn above an unloading frequency of the middle frequency horn.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1990Date of Patent: June 30, 1992Inventors: Larry L. Patent number: 5007707Abstract: An array of sound transducers where sound producing groups made up of one or more of the sound transducers may be separately driven so as to spatially reproduce a live performance. Flat sound transducers having sound producing diaphragms with a reflective surface may be employed so that the collective flat sound transducers may provide an image projection surface. The sound producing groups in the array of sound transducers may also be controlled so that the audio tracks the video or the location of a live performer.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1989Date of Patent: April 16, 1991Inventor: Jose J. Patent number: 4642945Abstract: An entertainment structure principally intended to comprise a cinematic auditorium. The structure has a horizontally disposed floor or decking support plate on which seating for members of an audience is arrangable and support means on which the support plate is rotatably mounted. Orientation varying means are operable to tilt the support plate, from the horizontal, in a required direction; while drive means are operable to rotate said support plate on said support means about an upwardly extending axis. The structure also includes a drive system operable to actuate said orientation varying means, and control means operable to control actuation of said drive means and said drive system for varying the angular disposition and tilt of said support plate with respect to said axis. In presentation of a cinematic programme, viewers perception of the action is enhanced by such rotation and tilting being synchronized and in concert with visual and aural action of the programme.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1985Date of Patent: February 17, 1987Assignee: Cinemotion Pty.
