Particular Condenser Patents (Class 353/102)
  • Patent number: 7252384
Abstract: A three-panel projection display apparatus displays a color image by separating light emitted from a light source into lights of three primaries, i.e., red, green, and blue, with dichroic mirrors, by irradiating liquid crystal light valves with the respective separated lights, by combining the lights modulated by the respective liquid crystal light valves with a cross dichroic prism, and by projecting the combined light through a single projection lens onto a screen. The lengths of the light paths for the separated blue and green lights are equal to each other. The distance between a condenser lens and the liquid crystal light valve in the blue light path is shorter than the distance between a condenser lens and the liquid crystal light valve in the green light path.

  • Patent number: 7226168
Abstract: Aspects of the invention can provide a projector capable of projecting a high-quality image by illumination that does not produce a difference in size among illumination areas for respective colors including red, green, and blue. A light-source light from a light source can be separated into color lights by first and second dichroic mirrors provided in a color separation system, which independently go incident on corresponding liquid crystal light valves as illumination lights. Herein, a mutual chromatic aberration can be corrected by adjusting, as needed, the radii of curvature of respective field lenses provided in the color separation system for use in adjusting angles of incidence of illumination lights with respect to the liquid crystal light valves. This configuration makes it possible to illuminate the respective liquid crystal light valves by illumination areas of exactly the same size, which in turn enables a high-quality image having no display shadow to be projected.

Abstract: Projector bulb life is managed to achieve desired performance parameters, such as a maximum life mode or maximum brightness mode, by sensing bulb luminance and applied the sensed luminance with a luminance feedback controller to drive the bulb to achieve the desired performance parameter. For instance, in maximum life mode the luminance feedback controller reduces power applied to the bulb to restrict bulb luminance to a maximum luminance setpoint when greater luminance is available with a newer bulb. In maximum brightness mode, the luminance feedback controller increases power applied to the bulb to increase bulb luminance if the sensor senses luminance below a threshold due bulb wear.
