  • Patent number: 9075293
Abstract: An illumination device includes a wavelength conversion material layer with a first surface, which includes a wavelength conversion material and a scattering material; a light guide device located adjacent the wavelength conversion material layer on a side facing its first surface for directing an excitation light onto the first surface of the wavelength conversion material layer, and for directing a mixed light emitted from the first surface, which includes converted light and remaining excitation light not absorbed by the wavelength conversion material layer, into a light exit port. In this illumination device, the light guide device can collect the excitation light reflected by the wavelength conversion material layer effectively, which insures that adding scattering materials into the wavelength conversion material layer doesn't have a significant impact on the luminous efficiency of the illumination device, and resolves the conflict between color uniformity and luminous efficiency of the device.

  • Patent number: 9075299
Abstract: A light source device uses a wavelength down conversion material for absorbing an excitation light and generating a converted light, and a color filter for filtering the converted light to generate a different color light as output. The wavelength conversion material is a yellow or green phosphor which absorbs blue or UV light and generates a yellow or green converted light, which has a sufficiently wide spectrum to cover some of the red color region. The color filter only allows the red component of the converted light to be output. This system is more energy efficient than using a red phosphor. This light source may be implemented as a moving phosphor wheel having multiple segments, one of which being the yellow or green phosphor with the corresponding color filter, the other segments being used to generate other colored lights such as green and blue lights.

Abstract: An illumination system, a projection device, and an illumination method are provided. The illumination system includes a polarized light source, a polarization switching element, a beam splitting element, a wavelength conversion element, a reflective element, and a wave plate. The polarized light source emits a polarized light beam with a first color. The polarization switching element switches a polarized direction of the polarized light beam at different time points. The beam splitting element separates polarized light beams having different polarized directions. The wavelength conversion element converts the polarized light beam having a first polarized direction to a converted light beam. The reflective element reflects the polarized light beam having a second polarized direction to form a reflected light beam. The beam splitting element combines the converted light beam and the reflected light beam comes from the wave plate disposed between the beam splitting element and the reflective element.
