Abstract: An approach is provided for managing the configurations of printing devices in a distributed environment where printing devices are initially configured at a first physical location and then reconfigured at a second physical location. A configuration manager provides configuration data to a configuration system at the first location to be used to initially configure printing devices. The configuration manager also provides the configuration data to a device management system at the second physical location. The configuration manager receives changes to the configuration data from the device management system at the second physical location and propagates the changes to the configuration system at the first physical location. The configuration manager also tracks the configuration state of printing devices at both the first physical location and the second physical location.

Abstract: A metadata storage method, device, and a server are disclosed. The method includes: obtaining a metadata to be processed from the preset metadata storage system or from external of the preset metadata storage system; determining a type of metadata to be processed; processing the metadata to be processed to obtain a new metadata in a storage format corresponding to the type of metadata to be processed, wherein the storage formats correspond to different types of metadata to be processed and comprise at least one identical information kind for different types of metadata; and storing the new metadata in the preset metadata storage system. Thus a search for a metadata can be performed through a unified interface in a search engine, which is convenient to use.

Abstract: Disclosed is a novel system and method to enables users to map a user's intent finishing selections for a finishing job to each subsystem, e.g., device, protocol, ADF, and finisher unit, of an imaging device. The presently claimed invention creates distinct perspectives and a way to map between perspectives. The distinct perspectives include intent orientation, a print protocol, ADF, copy/scan/fax platen, device, and finisher unit. Through use of novel transformation for automating image rotations to dramatically reduce errors with understandable and repeatable correct outcomes. The formal algorithmic and mathematical approaches disclosed in the present invention makes it easier to describe subsystems of an imaging device. The software implementation using this novel approach eliminates the need for conditional logic based programming customized for each imaging device and its various subsystems.

Abstract: A maintenance support device includes a memory that stores work result information that corresponds to a maintenance work that has been performed to solve a failure of an image processing apparatus. A processor is configured to acquire, and store in the memory, first work result information corresponding to a first maintenance work performed to solve a first failure type. After the first work result has been stored, the processor acquires, and stores in the memory, second work result information corresponding to a second maintenance work performed to solve a second failure type. It is then determined whether the first failure type matches the second failure type. Upon determining that the first and second failure types match, the first work result information is then updated to indicate that the first maintenance work has not been successful.

In an example thereof, a log associated with a printing device is checked for at least one print job having an incomplete state for a status of the at least one print job. The printing device determines estimated toner levels based on actual toner levels obtained from a toner sensor of the printing device. The estimated toner levels are determined based on a first actual toner level and a second actual toner level obtained from the toner senor and print usage between the two actual toner levels. The estimated toner levels are determined for levels below the second actual toner level and are mapped to synthetic toner levels. Visual indications of the synthetic toner levels are displayed on the printing device.

In order for an image application (e.g., a photo editor) running on the remote operating system to read in the image data from the image acquisition devices, the remote operating system of the host computing device may intercept a service call from the image application at a service layer and redirect the service call, via a virtual channel, to the local operating system of the client computing device.
