In a preferred embodiment, a return message so determined is not printed, whereas other types of incoming messages are determined to be valid for printing and are processed accordingly. Further, certain incoming messages that are detected as representing “round-trip jobs” are distinguished from return messages and the former are considered valid for printing.

    Abstract: The present invention discloses a pre-processing summarization technique that makes use of knowledge specific to the electronic mail domain to pre-process an electronic mail message so that commercially-available document summarization software can subsequently generate a more useful summary from the message. The summarization technique removes extraneous headers, quoted text, forward information, and electronic signatures, leaving more useful text to be summarized. If an enclosing electronic mail thread exists, the summarization technique uses the electronic mail message's ancestors to provide additional context for summarizing the electronic mail message. The disclosed system can be used with IBM Lotus Notes and Domino infrastructure, along with existing single-document summarizer software, to generate a summary of the discourse activity in an electronic mail thread dynamically.

Comparing the receiving page number and the interrupted page number, the POP3 protocol section identifies the data as the data corresponding to the pages received if the former number is smaller than the latter number. If the data corresponds to the pages received, the data is deleted from the reception buffer without any processing. On the other hand, if the data corresponds to non-received pages, then the data is received and printed out after decoding.

The method then performs a scanning operation of a document to form an electronic copy of the document. The electronic copy of the document can be transmitted to the plurality of selected recipients. A step of incorporating the electronic copy of the document into a database belonging to each of the plurality of selected recipients is also included in the method.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for transmitting and storing print jobs sent via e-mail. A first embodiment entails sending a document to be printed as an e-mail attachment to an e-mail enabled printer. The printer extracts the document from the e-mail attachment and performs any necessary decompression, decoding, and translation. The document may be placed in a print queue for printing and/or the document may be stored in a job retention area of printer memory. Preferably, the e-mail, which delivers the print job to the document to the printer, may specify various print settings for printing the document, as well as storage options and access rights if the document data is stored in job retention. In a second embodiment, an e-mail enabled print server is configured to extract documents sent as attachments to an e-mail and to distribute the print jobs to a network printer.

    Abstract: The presently disclosed embodiments are directed to systems and methods for transmitting a secure electronic fax or scan transmission report for a fax or scan job from a fax capable printer or a multifunctional device respectively. When the electronic confirmation (EConfirmation) option is selected, the machine sends an email comprising a status of the fax or scan job to the sender and a hyperlink. The sender then selects or “clicks” on the hyperlink, which connects to the machine Web (UI) Services. Web services automatically retrieves the job information and correctly displays all previously entered selections. The sender then simply verifies the information, makes any necessary changes and selects or “clicks” a button on the Web services to retransmit the fax or scan documents. In another embodiment, the sender is given an option to reformat a scan job by compressing or changing job parameters of the scan job.
