Abstract: A method for tracking facsimile jobs may be employed to examine, at an originating device, an incoming facsimile transmission for information indicating that the transmission originated at the originating device, in which case the incoming message is determined to be a return message which is the result of an error condition. In a preferred embodiment, a return message so determined is not printed, whereas other types of incoming messages are determined to be valid for printing and are processed accordingly. Further, certain incoming messages that are detected as representing “round-trip jobs” are distinguished from return messages and the former are considered valid for printing.

Abstract: According to a first network facsimile machine 11 among network facsimile machines of the present invention, for example, a main control section 17 makes a domain determination whether an electronic mail having been transmitted is from a domain of an important other party by referring to a domain management table in a domain registration section 35 as appropriate. When a determination that the electronic mail having been transmitted is from a domain of an important other party is made, as a result of the domain determination, the main control section 17 serves so as to raise a priority level of a job associated with the electronic mail. Therefore, a job related to the domain registered as the important other party is processed with priority through properly managing a priority level of a job on a network. As a result, a latency time until a job related to electronic mail having been transmitted from an important other party is started can be reduced as short as possible.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a pre-processing summarization technique that makes use of knowledge specific to the electronic mail domain to pre-process an electronic mail message so that commercially-available document summarization software can subsequently generate a more useful summary from the message. The summarization technique removes extraneous headers, quoted text, forward information, and electronic signatures, leaving more useful text to be summarized. If an enclosing electronic mail thread exists, the summarization technique uses the electronic mail message's ancestors to provide additional context for summarizing the electronic mail message. The disclosed system can be used with IBM Lotus Notes and Domino infrastructure, along with existing single-document summarizer software, to generate a summary of the discourse activity in an electronic mail thread dynamically.

Abstract: This invention is composed as a printer which receives a print request from a computer, the print request including a request to a peripheral device to acquire print data, and sends the acquisition request to the peripheral device, and performs printing on the basis of the print data sent from the peripheral device in response to the acquisition request. Abstract: Upon occurrence of memory overflow, a POP3 protocol process section interrupts email reception by POP3 and stores a page count number at the interruption in the data memory area as the interrupted page number. After that, POP3 protocol process section starts reception of the remainder of the interrupted email data connecting to POP3 server. Comparing the receiving page number and the interrupted page number, the POP3 protocol section identifies the data as the data corresponding to the pages received if the former number is smaller than the latter number. If the data corresponds to the pages received, the data is deleted from the reception buffer without any processing. On the other hand, if the data corresponds to non-received pages, then the data is received and printed out after decoding.

A first embodiment entails sending a document to be printed as an e-mail attachment to an e-mail enabled printer. The printer extracts the document from the e-mail attachment and performs any necessary decompression, decoding, and translation. The document may be placed in a print queue for printing and/or the document may be stored in a job retention area of printer memory. Preferably, the e-mail, which delivers the print job to the document to the printer, may specify various print settings for printing the document, as well as storage options and access rights if the document data is stored in job retention. The sender then selects or “clicks” on the hyperlink, which connects to the machine Web (UI) Services. In another embodiment, the sender is given an option to reformat a scan job by compressing or changing job parameters of the scan job.

Abstract: Systems and methods of management of electronic office equipment through automated monitoring and reporting of usage and status are disclosed. A monitoring agent monitors electronic office equipment on a network and collects usage and status information to send to a control system. The control system can use the usage and status information to compile various reports responsive to the received information. The system allows for the automatic assessment, monitoring, re-supply, maintenance, and billing of networks of printing devices from a variety of different manufacturers. In some embodiments, the system enables a pay per use lease arrangement.
