Abstract: Embodiment of systems and methods for the sending, delivery or receiving of faxes are disclosed herein. In particular, certain embodiments include a fax connector that may be deployed at users' sites, and a fax registration system that may be deployed remotely from these users' site. The fax connector can be accessed at a user's site over a computer based network in order to perform functions associated with faxing, including sending, receiving and obtaining status on faxes. The fax connector deployed at a sending user's site communicates with the fax registration system to obtain destination data associated with a recipient user's fax connector and transmits the fax to the destination fax connector over the computer based network based on the destination data obtained from the registration system. The fax can then be presented to the recipient at the recipient user's site.

Abstract: A facsimile device includes a facsimile receiving unit that receives facsimile data transmitted from a transmission source device, a storing unit that stores identification information and transmission source information of the facsimile data received by the facsimile receiving unit in a storing portion. The identification information distinguishes the facsimile data received by the facsimile receiving unit from other facsimile data received by the facsimile receiving unit, and the transmission source information indicates the transmission source device of the facsimile data.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus, an e-mail server, an e-mail facsimile transmission system having the same and an e-mail facsimile setting method of an image forming apparatus. The e-mail facsimile setting method of an image forming apparatus which transmits an e-mail for facsimile transmission to a facsimile server, includes displaying a parameter setting screen applied to a plurality of facsimile servers, inputting a parameter value depending on the displayed parameter setting screen; and transmitting an e-mail with an identification type to correspond to one kind of facsimile server of the plurality of facsimile servers to the facsimile server based on the input setting value. Thus, a setting screen commonly applied to a plurality of facsimile servers is provided to a user, thereby saving time and cost needed in an e-mail facsimile setting.

Abstract: A relay device includes a receiver that receives facsimile transmission instructions via a private network from a client device that does not include facsimile transmitting functions, a facsimile communication unit that transmits a facsimile externally via a public network, on the basis of the facsimile transmission instructions received by the receiver, a determiner that, on the basis of the content of the facsimile transmission instructions received by the receiver, determines whether or not to request another device connected via the private network to execute facsimile transmission, and a requester that, in the case where the determiner determines to request another device to execute facsimile transmission, sends a transmission request regarding some or all of the facsimile transmission instructions received by the receiver to another device.

Abstract: A system and method for inserting an advertisement for a document to be faxed. In this embodiment, a processor may be configured to determine a category associated with content in a document being faxed. The processor may select at least one advertisement that is related to the associated category. A determination may be made for a location within the document being communicated for one or more advertisements to be positioned. The processor may be further configured to place one or more selected advertisement into the determined location in the document being communicated.

Abstract: A communication system includes a client device that does not include facsimile transmission functions, and a relay device. The relay device is communicably connected to the client device via a private network while also being communicably connected to an external device via a public network, includes facsimile transceiving functions that transmit and receive facsimiles via a public network line associated with the client device, and in response to facsimile transmission instructions for image information received from the client device via the private network, transmits to the external device a facsimile of the image information with added information on the public network line associated with the private network.

From terminal apparatuses having no facsimile transmission functions, the reception section receives facsimile transmission instructions along with pieces of identification information of the terminal apparatuses via a private network. Abstract: A transmission apparatus transmits e-mail to a reception apparatus through a network by selecting one of a communication method via a mail server and a communication method without intervention of a mail server. The transmission apparatus receives, from the reception apparatus in accordance with the reply method, a transmittal confirmation result in response to the transmitted e-mail.

A fax driving unit converts a document into a fax data recognizable by a first multifunction machine, and creates a fax event including a fax information event which instructs to transmit the converted fax data to a second office machine and a fax number of the second office machine. A printer spooler spools the converted fax data and outputs the spooled fax data and the fax information event. A communication port transmits the spooled fax data and the fax information event to the first multifunction machine. The first multifunction machine transmits the fax data to the second multifunction machine based on the transmitted fax information event. Accordingly, data communication errors are prevented which occur between a host personal computer and a multifunction machine while transmitting the fax data.

A method includes consulting a database for information relating to the performance history of one or more facsimile transmitting devices. The database includes a performance score for one or more facsimile transmitting devices, and the performance score reflects the success or failure of a transmission of a data communication for an individual one of one or more facsimile transmitting device. The method further includes using the performance score to select an individual facsimile transmitting device from the one or more facsimile transmitting devices and attempting to transmit the data communication using the selected individual facsimile transmitting device.

Abstract: File name data is transmitted from a mobile telephone to a relay server. The file specified by the file name data is read from a database and transmitted to a print service server. In response, a reservation code is transmitted from the print service server to the mobile telephone via the relay server. The user of the mobile telephone goes to a store where a printer has been installed and inputs the reservation code to the printer. The reservation code is transmitted from the printer to the print service server and the file corresponding to the reservation code is transmitted to and printed by the printer. Since the mobile telephone need only transmit the file name data in a case where printing is performed at the printer, data traffic through the mobile telephone is reduced.

Abstract: In the image processing device, method and system of the present invention, a destination identifier of an image file is stored, the destination identifier indicating one of a plurality of external stations as a destination station which receives the image file from the image processing device through a network. At least one of a sender identifier of the image file, a subject identifier of the image file and a scan condition of the image file is stored. The image file is transmitted, together with at least one of the sender identifier, the subject identifier and the scan condition, through the network to one of the external stations indicated by the stored destination identifier.

During the communication in the ad hoc mode, the “m” channel is scanned to detect the access point at a predetermined time interval, and upon detection of the access point through the “m” channel, the communication mode is switched back to the infrastructure mode.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for scanning documents when a network is not available are provided. The document scans at least an entire page of a document for a user. If the document scanner identifies that the network is not available, the document scanner stores the scanned document in a repository at the document scanner. The document scanner also identifies when the network is available again. In response, the document scanner retrieves the stored scan document and sends the retrieved scan document to a destination computer over the network.

The system and method also provides for an interface device which connects to a conventional fax device for communicating E-mail addresses and routing hardcopy documents to the E-mail network, and provides a means for embedding the functions of the interface device into conventional fax devices. The system can also be used in cooperation with Internet Web service for reporting, accounting, information services, and user interaction.

Abstract: A bifurcated interface for integrated use in a fax-to-email system provides an alternative or additional method for command entry a fax-to-email system preferably through a remote, commercially available, personal digital assistant or like device modified by software to perform the command entry functions. Delivery of commands, and other data, from the PDA is made, preferably, via infrared signals, but, alternatively, by direct cable syncing and other techniques. Thus, the interface is bifurcated having a portable traveler portion and a host portion in a more permanent connection with the fax function of the fax-to-email system. The PDA functions as the interface traveler portion, and becomes (at least temporarily) a specially programmed data entry tool with command communicating ability and a protocol shared by (or matched to) the interface host portion. The system can also be used in cooperation with Internet Web service for reporting, accounting, information services, and user interaction.

Abstract: When a facsimile device detects an audio signal via a CNG signal detection unit while detecting an OFF signal in a CNG signal during a telephone conversation, the facsimile device does not detect the audio signal as an OFF signal if the level of the detected audio signal is greater than a threshold and the frequency of the audio signal is within a predetermined audio frequency range. Accordingly, the facsimile device can reliably prevent a false detection of a noise that has a similar signal component to a CNG signal as a CNG signal. It is possible to prevent the facsimile machine from being automatically shifted to a facsimile receiving mode by the false detection of the noise.

Abstract: A system and method transmit and receive information through a telephony based communication channel by scanning a hardcopy image to convert the hardcopy image into an electronic image and adding non-facsimile-communication-protocol/non-facsimile-image digital data to an electronic image to be transmitted by a telephony based communication circuit. Non-facsimile-communication-protocol/non-facsimile-image digital data is detected within an electronic image received from another facsimile system transmitting the electronic image based upon a telephony based communication protocol.

Abstract: In a system where a transmitting apparatus is connected via a network to a receiving apparatus, the receiving apparatus has a storage device for storing destination information which can be registered to a key in an operating device to be operated for transmission in a transmitting apparatus. When data is received from the transmitting apparatus, the destination information including an icon or information on a site wherein the destination information is stored is returned to the transmitting apparatus. Thus, registration of destination information to the key becomes easy at the transmitting apparatus.

Abstract: A facsimile communication system includes a first facsimile device that transmits image data and a second facsimile device. The TA receives and relays the e-mail message to an identified MFP, which discards the e-mail message and prints the attachment. A method for processing fax messages includes associating an identifier with a MFP, receiving a fax intended for the MFP, generating an e-mail message with an attachment representing the fax and communicating the e-mail message to a transfer agent that relays the e-mail to the MFP, which discards the e-mail body and prints the attachment.

The image file is transmitted, together with at least one of the sender identifier, the subject identifier and the scan condition, through the network to one of the external stations indicated by the stored destination identifier.
