Coded Image Communication Rate Patents (Class 358/426.11)
  • Patent number: 8681399
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems and methods for decoupling the mechanical drive systems of image scanners from the exposure system. A light source, such as an array of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), may be modulated in order to maintain a constant exposure for each scan-line, regardless of the document velocity. Accordingly, the present systems and methods allow for continuous document scanning at varying speeds. An automatic document feeder may dynamically adjust the velocity of a document without negatively impacting the exposure of the image scan. As the velocity of the document is changed, the modulation rate of the light source may be adjusted to maintain a constant exposure.

  • Patent number: 8331731
Abstract: When a multi-level image having a first resolution is converted into a multi-level image having a second resolution lower than the first resolution, attribute data including a conversion processed flag indicating a kind of conversion and a conversion result is generated and held associated with pixel data of a pixel on interest undergone the conversion corresponding to an attribute flag indicating an attribute in which a pixel before the conversion is located. When the multi-level image having the first resolution is restored from the multi-level image having the second resolution, the pixel data of the pixel of interest is replaced with pixel data of a plurality of pixels in correspondence with the conversion processed flag in the attribute data held associated with the pixel data of the pixel on interest and pixel data of pixels around the pixel of interest.

  • Patent number: 8184335
Abstract: An overall processing time to rasterize, at the first device, the electronic document to be rendered is computed. Also, a rendering time to render, at the first device, the electronic document to be rendered is computed. When the overall processing time to rasterize at the first device is greater than the rendering time to render at the first device, the electronic document to be rendered is parsed into a first document and sub-documents. A productivity capacity of each node is determined, the productivity capacity being a measured of the processing power of the node and the communication cost of exchanging information between the first device and the node. A sub-document is rasterized at a node when a productivity capacity of the node reduces the processing time to rasterize the electronic document to be rendered to be less than the computed overall processing time.

  • Patent number: 8184633
Abstract: A system for and method of efficient interoperability assessment based on automated Behavioral Profiling and Emulation of SIP or T.38 Fax-relay Enabled Devices, for example, for profiling and emulating VoIP Phones such as SIP Phones, or T.38 Fax-relay devices such as Internet Aware Fax Terminals. The method includes a Multi-step/Multi-technology Iterative Profiling Stage that allows creating a Behavioral Profile based on the analysis of a plurality of traffic samples. Also, the method presents an efficient process of Device Emulation of an actual device to be used in interoperability assessment, including a Standard State Machine parameterized by a set of characteristics stored in the Behavioral Profile. The Emulation method can be used to duplicate one or more device behaviors exhibited either by different firmware revisions, software upgrades or by different OEM product models.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus and method decodes interceded image data, even if reference image data is lost. The apparatus and method perform first coding that codes input image data by transforming the input image data into frequency components in units of blocks and coding the frequency components by adaptively using an intracoding mode and an interceding mode, second coding that codes frequency components obtained by limiting the frequency components for reference image data for use in the interceding mode, and outputting combined data obtained by combining the image data coded in the second coding with the image data coded by the first coding.

  • Patent number: 7738722
Abstract: Reduction in the blockiness of a simulated film grain block can be achieved either by the use of adaptive downscaling or adaptive deblocking filtering to adjust the intensity of the pixels at the block edge in accordance with at least one film grain block parameter, such as film grain size, intensity and texture. Performing such adaptive downscaling or adaptive deblocking filtering achieves improved performance at lower computational cost by avoiding modification of film grain block pixels in lesser affected areas.

  • Patent number: 7466456
Abstract: An apparatus for transmitting read data comprises a document reader 101, a data compression unit 102, a data transmission means and a CPU 104. The document reader 101 reads in a document having been subjected to predetermined data processing. The data compression unit 102 performs compression of the read data with a designated file format. The CPU 104 checks the limitation on transmission capacity set in advance for each data transmission means. When the volume of data compressed for transmission falls within the limited range of transmission capacity set for the data transmission means, the read data is transmitted to a destination designated by the user via the data transmission means designated by the user.

  • Patent number: 6778301
Abstract: A method of deriving a preview image from CCITT-compressed digital image data that represent an original image is disclosed. The method comprises receiving CCITT-compressed image data that represent an original image having Nr rows and Nc columns. Without decompressing the CCITT-compressed data, a preview image is derived that has Nr/M rows each having Nc/M pixel values. The reducing step includes processing each group of M rows of said original image represented in the CCITT-compressed data. Specifically, the CCITT-compressed data that represent the group of M rows of the original image is read. For each constituent row in the group of M rows, a location in the row is derived for each transition represented in the CCITT-compressed data. For each constituent row in the group of M rows, each transition in the row is mapped to a pixel value in a reduced row having Nc/M pixel values. Therefore, for each group of M rows in the original image, M reduced rows are defined.

  • Patent number: 6583887
Abstract: Compression apparatus is described that operates to select an optimum compression procedure to apply to received image data. The compression apparatus can be employed in a page printer having a print engine that must be provided with video data at a constant rate in order to avoid a print underrun. The page printer operates to receive print data and to convert the received print data into rasterized page strips. Some or all of these rasteized page strips can then be compressed by the compression apparatus for later conversion to video data. The compression apparatus operates to compress each received rasterized page strip by selecting a compression procedure that results in a compressed strip that will provide optimum print quality while not causing a print underrun and that is below a threshold data size.

  • Publication number: 20020149801
Abstract: An approach for providing stateless compression is disclosed. A message (such as an HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) GET request message or a Domain Name Service (DNS) message) is received from a host. A stateful compressor is initialized with a prescribed sequence to yield a primed state. The message is input into a stateful compressor, which outputs a compressed message based upon the primed state. The stateless compression scheme has particular applicability to networks with high latency—e.g., a satellite network.
